MK Machining Needs your Help! Good/Better/Best optics

This is exactly why people often stay quiet when asked—because some react so irrationally. If it’s not a Nightforce or Trijicon, the discussion quickly turns into an emotional jumble, and anything that doesn’t match your personal preference is deemed unworthy. It’s honestly quite entertaining to watch the complaints about optics that aren’t NF or Trijicon on here. I definitely get my comic fill since the comics in the newspaper aren't around anymore 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I disagree. The exact reason why you hear nightforce, trijicon, and SWFA recommended here so frequently is because it is not an emotional response. It’s because they work, and hold up to long-term use and abuse from people who actually use them hard and shoot a lot. It’s the exact opposite of an emotional response.

What did you want to hear? I use Leopold because Pappy said in 1982 that gold rings are the best? Or, I use Zeiss or Swaro because oooh those Europeans know their glass? Those are emotional statements.

Not disagreeing that they don't work because they do. But to act as if all are immune to failure is ludicrous. But you're stating my exact point

No one is saying any of them are immune to failure, but stating differences between the rate at which failure occurs rather. And it’s not even close.

Very much over reading. Haven’t seen much discussion from you just discourse and drama. We are done here.

Here is a good place to starts. generously compiled list of scope results. You will see some stand out models but also trends from certain brands.

Good - SWFA, Trijicon Huron/Credo
Better - Trijicon Tenmile, Nighforce NX8, Zeiss LRP S3, S&B Klassik
Best - S&B 3-15x42 ffp META, Minox ZP5 THLR

Some interesting new offerings coming out that have yet to be tested (S2H, Vortex G3 4-24, NF NX6, new wide angle model now that Swaro patent is up)

Hah! I really expected this thread to die after my last response. I knew the "Hell" that I was asking to unfold in my responses to show some of the internal guys here how silly of a request it was for me to come up with. I came to this forum with a hidden agenda, and really, got exactly what I wanted.

I did enjoy seeing the responses here, and I love munching popcorn while reading people argue online. It was fun to show the guys at the shop that aren't "in the know" that the un assuming SWFA brand of scopes are often loved by real hunters. The guys were actually quite surprised to not see even one Leupold being recommended. I got quite the kick out of that, again sharing the same feelings of Leupold as most of you guys do. I type this out while seeing a Leupold ad on this forum page :)

Love you guys. Keep on Rockin'? Sliding? Unsure, but have fun ya'll!

I just reread my own post, and I am genuinely curious… If a retailer were to only carry NF, Trijicon, S and B, and maybe Bushnell elite, for example, (with a well-promoted marketing narrative that “we only sell what works”) Would those offerings alone sell well enough to make it a financially viable idea? Or does a retailer “need” the big box Vortex, Leopold, Swarovski garbage of the world because the market is still not informed enough?

It would be a complicated, advanced marketing strategy to make it work, especially if they sold optics alone. Best bet would be a shop catering to elite clientele, and make that shop the place discerning and informed people go. Almost its own tribe. Also selling similar levels of excellence in guns, fine hunting clothing, and more or less being a one-stop shop for people who only expect the best. Those people listen to expertise, value it, and are happy to pay for it.

Your instincts on the market not being informed enough are right on the money. Ruger makes more guns than any other company at the moment, IIRC, and it's not because they're selling elite products - they're selling what people want.

Don't forget us regular non-pro shooters that use SFP scopes. And yes, I have NF, Trijicon, Sig Sauer, and a few other "mid range" scopes that once in a while I can hit the broad side of a barn "if" I am close enough.

Right. I’m not saying optics exclusive, just if you are gonna sell optics, or anything else, don’t sell junk. A high end, boutique hunting gear retailer is exactly what I’m talking about. A one stop shop, but where offerings are well vetted sounds awesome. Why does this not exist?

A sidebar, but now you have me curious…what is Ruger selling that is so marketable?

…what is Ruger selling that is so marketable?

Mostly cheaper, entry-level guns, with some tried-and-true icons. Generally, their numbers are coming from the guys who buy 6 or 7 different "deer guns" in the sub-$700 range over a couple of years for their "gun collection", instead of having one or two excellent guns with great glass that they've spent a lot of time behind. The kind of guys who shoot a couple of boxes of deer gun ammo just before season, and feel ready. They also sell the hell out of revolvers, especially to the single-action crowd, along with far more rimfires than anyone else probably by a full order of magnitude.

Same brother

We all give one another a hard time but in the end I am glad we all share the same types of hobbies and passions in firearms, hunting, and being outdoors!
