Missouri Non Res Changes

If states really cared about crowding they’d focus on EXPANDING public land territory. However that’s too difficult, it’s always easier for govt to sit back and add more limitations.

Remember, once you cheer on limiting people for “quality” the moto is set, and next it’ll be the residents who are getting restricted.

I just find it comical at times that you can still get basically an OTC sheep tag in Montana yet other places are limiting turkey/deer hunting.

This “quality hunt” cheer is going to end badly at some point for all. Yea those who “draw” may have a “quality” hunt, but how’s the “quality” for the hundreds and even thousands that don’t draw and are stuck home. Draws sound great, right up until you don’t draw.

Yeah, I have probably seen 200+ "Not Selected" in WA and CO alone.

I agree. But the crazy thing is, Missouri has LOTS of GOOD public land. Can you shoot a B&C buck on every tract - probably not. Can the residents of the state shoot a real dandy of a buck and a gobbler on public land within an hour of where they live - absolutely, in every corner of the state. Anyone who thinks Missouri of all states needs to limit NRs for their deer "quality" needs to pull their head out of their a** and go hunting

None of these are a good idea. Sorry.
If you lived there and had to put up w the influx of folks, they sure would be a good idea.

We have a lot of R vs NR stuff on here. NR come and take from R. This will continue to be a contention point.

NR should pay more. Lottery is good to reduce pressure.

Why do you need 2 bucks if you are just traveling to hunt cause it is neat? Hunt your backyard.

Here is some data/info for you all to read and then argue over. This isn’t the first change by any means. A couple other things to keep in mind 2006 MO went from a 3 buck limit to a 2 buck limit for everyone. 2012 MDC started CWD culling and extended seasons eventually followed. 2016 MO authorized crossbows as legal archery equipment for all hunters. 2020 COVID increased hunter participation.

I find it hilarious lately how many people are up in arms over MDC finally attemping to address the issue. Yet, those same people accept and even applaud western states that put their residents first. God forbid, a midwestern state starts attemping the same.

I find it comical that the common statement used in defense is “western states do it so why can’t we”

There’s roughly 1m elk total in ALL states. Mule deer, about 3x that but again, ALL states.

Missouri alone has roughly 1.5 mm deer. It’s apples to oranges.

This isn’t to say “something” doesn’t need to happen, but the way these things usually go about are far overboard.

No talk is hardly ever about the herd and what it can sustain. It’s about “residents don’t like the pressure they have to hunt with”

When restrictions come out on what someone can do on their own private land, it’s no longer a discussion about the resource.

Well with this logic- then noone in the east would be able to travel to my neck of the woods (ID/MT/WY/UT) and chase Elk, Mule Deer or Antelope around the mountains. I think there's a lot more people that would be upset with that. The last thing we need is more ppl moving into these states just to hunt.

We are gonna see more and more of this stuff.

Too many folks from out of town showing up and hunting on your permit. Down here in FL the guys are super pissed about the osceola turkey permits. Guy drives by hunt area every day going to and from work but can only hunt his backyard every 7-10 years cause of some stupid turkey slam has folks coming from all over the world.

Im more into folks being able to hunt their own backyard regularly with NR getting limited access. And no i dont care about no fricking turkey. Care less about some guy traveling across the country to shoot one than i do my neighbors being able to hunt near home.

I hunt NR every year on my own property in another state. Have to play by NR rules even though i pay the state taxes too.

Edit - you can always get your state representative involved and tell them they need to do xyz regarding NR hunters. Up to you what you want them to do.

Bottom line is this stuff is changing. Either you change with it or get left behind. Regulators regulate and the more complaints, the more they regulate and everyone ultimately loses. Btdt more than once.

Did you read the stats @Marine4life posted?

If Missouri allocated 10-15% of tags to NR like a lot of western states do .... there would be exactly the same number of NRs hunting Missouri as there are right now. 12% of the hunters are funding 53% of the tag revenue. If you cut that number by half, do you expect them to pay twice as much? Or do you expect Resident tag prices to double?

Oh wait, they don't pay for tags in Shannon County

The guy who screams it isnt fair is just whiney. No-one owes us anything.

I’m not following your Osceola permit issue? Do NR not get limited to 10% of tags giving R higher odds. Who is “showing up to hunt your permit”?

On the highest demanded open grounds, are they not banned for the first week?

Do you think restrictions that cause some people to change their address to gain resident status just to hunt actually help the state?

Or, would a middle ground be better to prevent more people from moving and taking up habitats, something florida is majorly plagued with right now.

As usual you have little to zero understanding on what's happening.

The issue is land leasing by non-residents as was outlined when change was announced.

I lived in MO for 12 years, bought some property and pay my taxes every year. It was not too long ago when I could buy my any deer permit for $125 I think and doe permits were $7. Getting to be a rich mans sport even in MO. When we still lived there, I didn't even have to buy permits as a landowner. Just fill out a piece of paper and slap it on the carcass. All was good.

They just changed that last year. I dont hunt no flocking turkeys. Takes 3-4 yrs for a deer tag where i hunt. MINWR is going on 7 or 8 applications for a 1 or 2 day duck permit.

We have this same bitchfest 3-4x a year over prices going up, permit reductions, etc.

Be nice if folks could read the writing on the wall but they dont/cant. Things gonna keep changing til you cant hunt but infrequently or not at all.

the argument was 1 buck tag, possibility of quota permits, and 1 other thing. Dont blame me for believing what folks write.

I know the laws where i hunt, rely on folks to fill in the gaps elsewhere. Research it all you want.

The only writing on the wall is society today is 100x more greedy than ever and it’s affecting EVERYONE.

We fighting each other to race to the bottom for some reason. It’s like we don’t understand what goes around comes around.

Yea everything can’t be wide a** open, but the anti NR motto is terrible for all US citizens

Where does it end? Ik, eventually if unchecked this results in everyone needing to fulfill all their needs and desires in 1 state. Every-time 1 person is limited he then wants others limited from what he has on and on

“I can’t hunt there, you can’t hunt here”

“I can’t hunt there you can’t fish here”

“I can’t fish there, you can’t work here”

“ I can’t work there you can’t vacation here”

If the government tried to buy and create National Forest today, like they once did it would likely never pass. Because the federal tax payer would have no reason to support paying for something somewhere else. They’d be so mad at whatever state it would be in that they’d want to seen it fail just out of spite.

Thats pretty much it. A race to the bottom.

We got stung with the atlantic ARS thing this year. Only a symptom of whats going on.

I should get a 5-day archery tag this year. Last time i archery hunted local was 2021. Go figure.

Im all for everyone to hunt. Just get in line and be nice about it.
