I dont have tinitis but have been wearing hearing aids for 47 years.

My wife had a setting on her hearing aids that was waves, to try and trick her brain regarding tinitis. She said it didnt help in a work environment. Too many noises.

Tinitis is a tough one.

It might sound too new age or optimistic, but some meditation techniques seem to help me. When it’s bad (typically in bed), I just try to understand that it’s only in my brain, just like everything - all of the other sounds, the feeling of the bed, smells (well, when I could smell), etc. As I focus on those in rotation, and try to relax my muscles, the “sound” tends to go away/be less annoying. YMMV

Funny timing with this thread. Several
Months ago I noticed a slight whistle in my right ear, not so much in my left ear. I’m late 40’s and have shot guns all my life and listed to the radio way too loud for a large part of that. I was way late to the game of wearing hearing protection when in the field. The hearing test a few weeks back confirmed definite hearing loss. The doc suggested foam ear plugs IN ADDITION TO over ear” protection to stop further loss when shooting. If my wife or daughters talk to me without looking at them I really have a hard time understating what they are saying. I’ll be changing my ways in the field. For what it’s worth, I had COVID over the holidays. No idea if they are related.

There is a thread on SigTalk about the best plugs to wear under my Sordin muffs. Now that I’ve got hearing loss and tinnitus, I’m trying to take every step to mitigate further loss.

Update:
My research started a little before I posted this thread.

I decided to get BOSE Sound Control hearing aids. They are available online, and cost about $850 (they are available now for $700).

Like I mentioned, I have mild hearing loss and the research pointed to these.

After wearing them for 2 days, I can definitely hear more sounds (birds, crickets, etc), especially with the Bluetooth capability to adjust the levels on my phone.
They are small and easy to program.

There are 4 modes - Conversation/Outdoors/Music/TV

So far, I believe it’s helped my tinnitus to some degree, but just being able to hear better is a nice advantage.

If anyone has mild hearing loss and is looking to enhance life’s sounds, look into these.

If streaming music/phone calls /podcasts to hearing aids is important to you, these aren’t for you.

My tinnitus gets worse when I get dehydrated, and it also gets worse from taking certain meds........like Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS. My sister told me that when she started using teeth whitening strips, she developed really bad tinnitus. I think there are all kinds of triggers for it.
