Apparently there's more negative content lately. So let's change that.

What's been some enjoyable or memorable times in 2024?

Mine are, getting my wife to finally go backpacking with me. (Even though I ended up packing almost everything. 😂)

Going on a MT Goat Count for Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance and the state of Montana.

Changing careers of working in the public sector of which i felt was a dead end job to now work for a custom home builder being a jobsite foreman/assistant supervisor.

Having another year of life with my beautiful wife. 1000015670.jpg1000015675.jpg1000015271.jpg1000015273.jpg

Getting to watch my daughters get fully hooked on whitetail hunting. Seeing my oldest daughter get a chance on a toad of a buck (ran out of light unfortunately) and seeing my younger one get absolute buck fever and sail a bullet right over a bucks back. Both had opportunities at great deer, neither connected, and we all had an absolute blast.

My top one was getting paid by the tax payers to go hang out and burn in Arkansas for 3 weeks. Checked off a few states I haven’t been to as well driving down there.

My close 2nd was realizing that choosing to wear a helmet while riding my motorcycle saved my life this last June, even though I missed out on close to $25k in missed work opportunities, I got to relax in July and August for the first time since 2013.

I had the hunt of a lifetime this year. My buddy and I found our target bucks together in the same canyon and we managed to kill both within a minute of each other. Personal bests for both of us. We kept track of both bucks through the summer and had never seen them together before. I can’t believe it worked out the way it did, but I am super grateful. One hunt I will never forget! Me, my father and my oldest daughter's stepdad all worked together to build her first house. We're all a bunch of assholes that like to do things our own way but we made it work and had a good time (mostly). Finishing touches are going on this week and then it's done.

My other memorable time this year was letting my youngest daughter skip school so we could load up on Shovelnose sturgeon while they were spawning. I smoked the meat and it was amazing. My wife processed all the caviar and it was great too. We felt like royalty for about a month.

Took my sons (25 & 17) along with the oldests friend on an archery elk drop camp hunt in MT. While we didn't bring any elk home, we saw them and had one opportunity. Lots of good fishing and good memories made.
Second to that was my oldest finally taking his first deer with a recurve, a nice 8pt and having our new BMC pup trail it successfully (wasn't really needed as the trail was good).

Best year of retirement was this year. My daughter gave me my first grandson, I was at my Wyoming cabin at least once a month from March to December.
And the fall hunting was successful with a bull elk, a cow moose, a WT buck and a turkey.

Not sure I’ll top this year anytime soon

I shot my first mule deer buck in WY with my bow with my older brother. I was able to hunt more this year than any other year in my life. Im at the point now where my work and home life allow for such an event. Makes me realize how truly fortunate I am.

The kid started playing hockey a few years ago. We had never been to an NHL game before. It worked out this spring to watch the Panthers and Oilers play in the finals. Pretty cool first NHL game.

I point boosted the wife and kid so they could go on a decent antelope hunt. They both got antelope they were happy with.

Then I got lucky and picked up a last minute deer tag when there was zero chance I should have been able to. My nephew already had a tag for the hunt. He killed a great buck and I was able to kill my best buck to date.

Overall we were blessed this year with new experiences and a couple opportunities that came up being in the right place at the right time. Always hard to beat luck.
