Looked around and didn't come across a thread about this specifically.

Just wondering if you guys are keeping an eye out while escouting for anything specific that'll give you an idea about food sources?

I seem to get a pretty clear idea about water, terrain, elevation etc when comparing escouting with boots on the ground. Just a little confused about what to look for in terms of food.

Are there any plants that get hammered at a certain elevation during a certain time of year? A plant that grows on certain facing slopes during October vs Sept that may entice elk out of cover?

Just wondering if I should be covering food during escouting as well as water

Id give this rokcast a listen
After listening to that you can learn more about most of those plants on this thread- https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/plants-every-mule-deer-hunter-should-know.395040/

Not sure how you verify any of them with e-scouting though
Thanks will def give those a listen.

Not really expecting to verify through e scouting. Mainly wondering if these anything that make people pop down a pin to check out on the ground in relation to food souces.

Edge territory, but also know that the vegetation phase is critical. Knowing that a certain type of vegetation existed at the time of the satellite image is not the same as saying that vegetation is present during your hunt window.

Not for me, no. I have learned to identify a few different and important types of vegetation by e-scouting then putting boots on the ground. It was not easy, and when I say few, I mean it. But it was very well worth it.

For whatever reason, elk seem to fixate on certain wild pastures though I've wondered if it's more neurosis than an actual reason.
There are supposedly certain forbes that ripen after being frost burnt . The frost makes these plants either sweeter or more digestible. I very seldom see elk alone, there are 6 to 12 together or larger groups and as such they will destroy a 5,10 or 40 acre food plot pretty quickly.
