Awesome to see @Jordan Budd in ep2
Yup, really enjoyed that episode.

Didn’t watch the first one because I loathe BRCC and Evan Hafer.

I view all hunting “influencers” or “content creators” sorta the same way I view lawyers and used car salesmen.

That said if I had to pick a few to chat, hunt, or drink a beer with it Steve, Clay or Jordan would be near the top of the list.

Trying to sift through all the pointless posts. Usually they end up with about 3-4 episodes I’m interested in watching per season. How is it this new one?

I haven't watched any of it yet, but I agree with your assessment.

I don't expect to love every episode.

I generally dislike all of the influencers/personalities.

But Steve and Clay put out some stuff I find interesting and/or entertaining.

Yea, although they are going to need to up the interest factor on the new "Gear Talk" podcast with her and Janis. I tried to listen to it at work and it was so boring I would rather just work.
Agree but I was kind of shocked to hear Janis using a Kifaru. Thought for sure it would be strictly first lite and stone glacier talk so that was a nice surprise

Watched episode 2. Great to see @Jordan Budd as part of the Meateater crew and getting it done.

I will say that my ipad -> airplay -> TV set up has added a bit of a pain in the ass factor. It restarted 3x and had to buffer a couple of times. I am sure there are lots of good business reasons for the distribution format shift - more $, more control, draw more traffic to the site, collect email addresses, etc. - but the user experience is a bit diminished IMO Vs the ease of use from Netflix. Hard t complain too much since it is free but if Ole Cal, that damn sexual 🦖🦖🦖, can do anything to make the video stream work a little better, it would be appreciated.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you hate Evan Haefer and BRCC?

Because I'm actual coffee snob...

I expect origins and proper tasting notes from my coffee. I don't even like blends.

Lump that together with the cringey vet bro packaging and marketing... Don't tell me that my coffee is freedom filled, tell me how it was processed.

Evan was all about profiting off of the pro 2A movement, popularity of “black rifles” etc, until it came time for them to support someone who actually used a “black rifle” in what turned out to be a legitimate case of self defense. He then essentially criticized his main customer base (right wing conservatives) as being “racists” and “a repugnant group of people.”

https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com...verdict-black-rifle-coffee-company-still-mum/

Furthermore, people started digging, and found that several top people at BRCC gave money to anti gun democrats, to include Evan Hafer himself.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.theb...d-donating-to-biden-democrats-report.html/amp

When confronted with that, Hafer initially lied and said he “lost a bet” IIRC.

Bottom line they are a bunch of grifter douchebags trying to make a quick profit off the “vet bro” persona.

As a veteran and actual pro gun person myself, they can **** right off.

I’ve had zero issue streaming from phone to TV. I really don’t mind it at all because I can still use my phone while streaming, and I’m pretty used to it as a Detroit sports fan living in Colorado. I have to stream all the games regardless so it’s nothing new

<sigh>.

I don’t need my coffee company to jump on ever PR grenade that rolls through the world. Depending on how strictly you adhere to old Milton Friedman, the CEO of a public company is mostly supposed to run that company for the benefit of the shareholders and usually that means to make money. That can also mean not taking overt political stances that will Torpedo your Walmart distribution deal or something like that.

now back to the Meateater…

It was a PR grenade, but instead of just running away, Evan pulled the pin and acted like he was the victim.

First off they weren’t a public company at that point, and they had already come out in support of John Knospler, a former Marine who was claiming self defense but eventually convicted of murder.

So saying, “we don’t get involved” in legal defense was a lie and everyone knew it.

Even if they just put out there initial statement (which was poorly done to begin with) and dropped it like a hot potato like they should’ve, it would’ve been forgivable.

But instead Evan just couldn’t help himself, doubled down, and essentially called “MAGA Republicans” racists, didn’t want them as customers (even though they were pretty much his main customer base) etc. It was the perfect lesson of what NOT to do when faced with a PR crisis.

They should’ve said, “As BRCC, we support all legal self defense. We have yet to see all the facts in this case, and we await the legal process to ascertain the facts prior to making any statement.” Done, finished, dropped like a hot potato.

But that isn’t what they did.

I’m a meateater fan. I like Steve. Part of what I like about ME is they are relatively apolotical. I don’t expect them to come out in support of someone like Kyle or anyone else.

BRCC built an entire company around being this pro gun, politically incorrect alternative to Starbucks. But when the chips were down, they acted just like what they were trying to be the antithesis of.

They could probably apply their business model to almost any other product and sell to the same customer base. Just use the same graphics, names, and labels.

BRSC - Black Rifle Soap Company
BRMC - Black Rifle Mitten Company
BRBC - Black Rifle Bagel Company
BRBBBC - Black Rifle Bed Bath and Beyond Company

Ha! Probably true.

I never fell for the Schtick, either before or after Kyle.

I like my companies to make the best possible product to make a profit, and stay out of politics, and BRCC coffee sucks.

On the other hand, back to Meateater, they seem to do that. They make quality hunting content, I enjoy it because unfortunately as much as I love hunting I can’t do it all the time so listening to a podcast or watching a show is the next best thing.

By and large they haven’t gotten caught up in political PR grenades, and I appreciate that.

Can someone please post a new topic when I can watch on my TV?
Jokes aside, I think guys like the Meateater and @Randy Newberg see that dependence on major media platforms for distribution is economically challenging and perilous. If the platform decides it doesn’t like the content - blood, guns, etc. - or someone flags it, it can get pulled. It seems like those bigger names are moving toward a more captive distribution model. Going forward, As consumers, we are going to have to do a little more to access their content and probably pay a little more for it.

I think I'm not going to do that. I watch so little TV as it is, it wouldn't be a big change to watch zero TV.
