If you have a fire stick you can get on their website and watch it. Do people really get influenced on what hunting gear they should buy while watching a show? I was watching the new episodes and thought about how I dont car what brands they are using or what ever but I just love watching hunting. They could be shooting deer in a Abercrombie button up with Hollister pants and I couldnt care less.

Was in kodiak a week ago and its pretty funny seeing all the camo at the airport. I would say 90% of the people were decked out in kuiu and lowas.

Influencing people to buy product is THE point of Meateater now. Seriously. They are an e-commerce company. If the model did not work, Chernin would not have dumped in tens of millions of dollars.

I really liked the episode with Jordan Budd. She was worried they weren't finding a shootable deer and to hear Steve just say, "Don't you worry about a thing. This time is just enjoyable for me." Or something along those lines, was refreshing. I just enjoyed watching the exchange between the two of them.

Spot on. Exhibit A, a $400 boning knife:

My day job takes me into meat processing plants across the country. Professional meat cutters use $50 Dexter or Victorinox knives. A knife over $100 is laughable in the meat cutting and butchering industry. It's clear what the motives are here.

Still a great show that has probably had an overall very positive effect on hunting in this country.

Some people like knives, and are willing to spend money.

The vast majority of of my my knives are over $100, and most closer to $400 than $100.

I do own a $350ish Meatcrafter, but not that one. I do really like it.

I get that's what it is. But maybe I just look passed all the product pushing with these shows and just like watching people hunt. Could care less what brands or guns they are using. The homies on rock slide and their reviews is what I look into when getting new gear.

I just finished the newest episode when they duck hunt in Mississippi. Not one mention of a brand. Not one zoom in on a logo. One guy was even wearing cabelas brand bibs with the logo front and center. How was I influenced I to buying a product?

Every Meateater bashing thread on this forum I pose the same question and no one ever gives an answer or responds at all....Meateater produces 100% free content. All of their video based shows, all of their podcasts are of no charge to their followers. How would you suggest they make money off of this endeavor if they weren't selling products?

Mate. You have lost how it works.

Nothing is free. Remember that. Your eye-time on the screen is monetize to advertisers (in this case, largely themselves), to entice you to buy the next great thing. Why don’t they need to zoom in on logos and brands? Simple. Because market research shows that hunters, especially aspirational/new hunters directly correlate equipment with success. Why do you think so many hunters go afield looking like cookie-cutter cutouts? They know these same hunters we actively search to know what gear is being used. With the latest model, meateater has now put that info underneath the videos, and also created short “gear lists” PER EPISODE. Don’t tell me they aren’t showing brands now.

This is a very effective e-commerce model, it works for Food-52 (also owned by Chernin and connected to meateater), and also Barstool sports (again, another Chernin endeavour.).

I was a big fan of early meateater because it told stories simply and without adornment. It has changed dramatically. Yes, easy to say “you’re jealous,”
Or “it’s America/capitalism.” But that would be 3rd grade reductivity.

You still didn't answer the question. How would you like them to make money off of the brand if they don't charge consumers for their content? The only way would be advertising, endorsements and selling products. Period.

Rokslide is the only place I've ever seen anyone complain about something that they get for free.

It's capitalism.

Steve can't pay his bills with stories.

For it to continue, it's got to make money.
