McMillan Mountain Tracker LR - Tikka T3 Dev Project

Thanks for all the replies. Their pre order shows min cost of $933 so i wanted to confirm. For the price you guys got them for, im going to try to get in before pre orders stop. Hoping I get in at the same price, if I dont well its my own darn fault.

I thought the price was less? Was that only for the first group of guys?

Thats why I was asking and im not sure. If the first group of guys got a discount then good on McMillan for doing that.

When I saw these come out I figured $1000 easy considering the brand.

This is a current screenshot from the load dev page, I know they've updated portions of it but IIRC the estimated price for carbon fiber *materials (lol) hasn't been changed. Not sure if we did actually get a discount for being backers, or if it just didn't end up as expensive to produce.

I'm feeling a little confused how people think they paid less. I just got the call that my stock was done and ready for payment. I had to pay an additional $898 on top of my $100 deposit. Total cost $998 for HEC Sage Carbon. This aligns with an invoice I received back in January. You have to total all the numbers below the deposit to get the $998 number. My stock is shipping tomorrow.MTN Tracker LR Invoice.PNG

This aligns with my experience for a painted carbon.
Only difference was I did not have a premium paint. With a free paint option on a carbon shell, total price is $923

Mine arrived yesterday. It's right at 30 oz (carbon with paint). Moved a barreled action from an Echo to it but didn't have much time to spend with it. Looking forward to putting it to use.

Were you one of the first 50? The only difference I see is that mine says R&D Deposit, and if their backer counter was correct I was #4. They never disclosed there would be a difference in cost so I apologize for misleading anyone!

Thanks for sharing. Yes I was one of the very first backers. I’m even more mad now. Got bumped backwards on the list(wasn’t that big of a deal but still annoying) and paid over $100 more for no perceptible reason.

I called McMillan about this pricing deal. What happened is that @Harvey_NW got dealer pricing because it was sent to his gunsmith. My price is the normal price. I guess I should have had mine sent to an FFL. Feels a little scummy that they can sell for less and I am just paying more for no reason.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find a rifle component that dealers did not get a different price than consumers.

The thing is we all ordered directly. If I knew I could do it on this project I would have shipped it to my FFL. The whole Dev Project thing just seems a bit poorly run as the way the orders were placed was very non-traditional. McMillan called me again and said they did have a lot of miscommunication on the project and have corrected it going forward. They were super nice and apologetic.

They said that the $859 pricing is 15% off so is probably first responder discount.

FFL pricing is 20% off or sometimes more.

Sort of sucks how we got punished for being on the dev list since we had to place our orders by phone at an unexpected time so we couldn’t make proper arrangements or apply discount codes easily. There are tons of discount options out there.

It was mentioned in the thread a lot and what they really should have done is given all of the first backers a nice discount for putting their neck out there.
