The S.1A is a really good spotter. Given it is only 4.5 ounces heavier than the S.3, it would make sense for a lot of hunters. The S3 and S1.2A have the advantage of interchangeable eyepieces, so if you are looking for a reticle eyepiece to supplement your zoom, you will be better off with one of those. With the S.1A only being another $150, and for a guy who can only afford 1 spotter, would you go with the S.1A? And what's the difference between the S 1A and the S1.2A???
Also Matt, for a guy who is only going to buy 1 spotter, looking at a $2000 budget, what spotter would you go for at this price point? Would it be a Maven or something else?
The S.1A also has more magnification than the S.3, which is a real advantage.
The S.3A is a bit shorter and takes up a little less space.
I do really like the Maven spotters at this price point. Make sure you have (or budget for) a good tripod also.
