That's a lot. I've never had mine spin on me in all the conditions you mention. The o ring is a great way to make the turret stiffen, but I swapped mine to be hip and cautious

Perhaps there’s some inconsistency from the factory. Mine have spun pulling out of gun cases or pulling out of a saddle. But I don’t know that mine have spun any other time that I remember. Regardless, I always reset to zero before shooting as part of my process

I check too- but the 15th or 20th time that I grabbed a rifle and the turret had spun .5 to 1.5 mils just riding in the backseat with gear was enough. If the I-ring solves the problem, all the better but I stopped seriously using the RS1.2 a year or so ago because of it.

I’m not suggesting it’s acceptable to spin. I’m just stating that there seems to be a mixed bag in terms of reviews for how easily it spins.

FWIW, I no longer have any RS1.2 either. I went back to the SWFA 6x and will buy the RokScope when it comes out.

For sure. But, it’s more of a “most people aren’t really using them in the field” thing. Spinning on them is noticed just in the Pretest day of the S2H classes- and guys almost all say “that’s never happened before”.

I don’t think anyone I shoot and hunt with still uses them seriously due to the issue. I’ve never had a scope whose turret spun so often. I’m going to try the o-rings. I hope it stops it, because the 1.2 is a pretty solid scope otherwise.

The 1.2 is a good scope other than the turret spinning issue. But, like I said right after they were released- the only reason I would generally choose one over a SWFA 3-9x is because the SWFA is not available.
Hell it’s possible the S2H scope has the same issue and has to be adjusted, won’t know until we have them in hand.

The fatter o ring makes it as stiff or just more so than a brand new swfa 3-9. It's the aggressive knurling that might still give issues, grabbing on things and causing a spin.

Edit to add the aggressive knurling might just be part of the deal because of how the tool less zero set works. Maybe a ranger band is the cure.

This year I had an issue with the turret moving, while my 12 year old son was using it. We were heading up to where he had shot an elk. The turret had spun about 3/4 of a turn, just from it rubbing on his pack. I had been using the scope coat that comes with the RS1.2, but after shooting the elk, it was stuffed in a pocket. I am going to try the larger O-ring, and maybe some elec. tape on the knureled turret. But I will be getting the S2H scope or two also.

What I have done for quite a few years, is put a thin piece of tape on the turret, that you can see at a glance if the turret has moved. The tape I use is from one of those Brother label makers. It sticks really well, the first one I did over 5 years ago is still in place.

Hockey tape on the turret checkering helps a fair bit by itself. But removing and replacing the hockey tape everytime you change zero is not fun or realistic

Granted it’s a small sample size of one hunting season, but my high end custom BDC tape has eliminated 80-90% of any unintended turret moves for me. I leave the knurling at the top exposed for zeroing.
Might have to try that o ring though.

I installed this O-ring on one of my scopes this morning. Not sure I like the loss of tactile feel. I might try the lube trick, but I also might just look for a way to reduce the knurling. Chuck it up in a lathe and sand it down a bit? Maybe use some black epoxy to fill in some of the valleys?

Cut a key slot in the top cap and trim the knurling would be the way.
