Hey guys. I just picked up an awesome Marlin 336SC “waffle top” in 30/30 with an “F” prefix and 4 digits making it a 1949 vintage. The rifle is in unbelievable condition for its age and shot very little. My only issue that the owner replaced the original butt plate with a soft pad ( no mods to the stock at all). I’m wondering if anyone has a similar rifle who could post up a few photos of the butt plate. I know there are a lot of repo plates out there, but I’d like to get it as close to original as possible. Also, wondered if the early ones had the white spacer. I’ve seen the both ways, but don’t know which was the original configuration. Thanks a ton for any info.

That is exactly what I needed and hoped to get here. Thanks a ton for going out of your way to provide the info. One last request. Could you provide the name and author of the book you’re using? I also collect pre-64 model 70s and have Roger Rule’s “The Rifleman’s Rifle” and use it regularly to do research on model 70s. Thanks again and all the best to you and yours.
