Making Your Own Hunting Gear, By Jake Lamphier

Have you thought about making some of your own gear but are not sure where to start? Jake Lampier just finished up a great article that breaks down some of the tools needed along with some great tips to help you get started. Check it out below.

Making Your Own Hunting Gear
Great article - everyone should remember, in the old days junior high kids learned to sew - boys and girls. It’s not rocket science. In 7th grade my sewing project was a duffel bag. 8th grade was a denim work shirt. In high school I made better duffel bags and gaiters. As a seasonal Forest Service firefighter I had access to an industrial sewing machine and rolls of nylon - we made all sorts of gear.

Just as important as making new things, is modifying existing gear to work better or for a better fit.

Everyone should learn the basics. :-)

Great article, can't believe I haven't seen it until now! Having made a lot of my own gear, for hunting and otherwise, can emphasize the good pair of scizzors and a straight edge.

Another benefit of MYOG that isn't emphasized here, is that I'm not afraid to beat it up as much as the expensive hunting gear you buy off the rack. Knowing what goes into making it, I'm much more comfortable using and abusing it, knowing that I can always repair it.
