Madison WI

I grew up about 20 miles or so from the Horicon NWR and Theresa marsh. Some of the best waterfowl hunting in the world back in the days. This was in the 70's and early 80's. You might not be around for the season, but it was great.

No one has mentioned the mosquitos?

Left WI 12 years ago now. Thinking of heading back this fall to visit the family. I miss the fishing. What I would do for a bucket full of crappie off the ice. Its a great state for outdoor stuff but it is mostly private and locked up. Lots of public but lots of people to share it with.

A lot of people ask me, did you leave Wi. because of the cold winters, my response is, no I left because of the hot humid summers. I use to spend my time sitting in the Rock River fishing just to be out of the humid air.

Man, this has really made me miss home. 8 more years until I can move back.

We need to really stop talking about how great Wisconsin is or else we’ll be overrun like some of the western states soon haha. The mosquitoes will carry you away in May, CWD killed all of our deer, there’s no more legal walleyes, and the ducks fly right past the state and go straight south now

But, they have lots of beers, brats, and great cheese.

Says someone from ILLINOIS?????

Lots of good info already posted. Winnequah range has national competitions there and a very good range. There are a few others very close to Madison out to 600. I live about 45 minutes SW of Madison on the WI river

If anyone can find 209 primers and Allient green dot powder, tell me where if you would. The place I had always got my shotgun reloading components from has had virtually none of what I need. They did have one 8 pound canister of green dot powder the other day, $311, I don't really need that much.
Recobs has had cases upon cases of 209s all summer.

Sitting under the bridges with a cooler full of beer fishing the rock.. haven’t done that in 10years. Haven’t drank in 8.5 years. Lost all my fishing gear a few years ago and haven’t had the drive to fish since. Rumor has it macmillers is extending their range from 300-600yds. Schioctan is a little more than 2hours from Madison. I frequent there often they have an 50yd rifle,100yd rifle and the long range which is 200, 250, 300, 400, 450,500 and the steel is 595yd and targets are 587. That place is a blessing and people often disrespect it. So if you all see trash or brass being left behind clean it up, I’d hate to lose the only open volunteer ran public range over 200yds in the state. If you are into sporting clays there are a ton of great places to shoot throughout the state. Same goes with 3d archery courses. Recently took the short drive to Hartford and for 11$ shot their course. Was impressed with the targets, course and grounds. If you need an archery shop with the best techs/gear and atmosphere, 45minutes straight east of Madison to dousman is whale tales archery(a few of us use whale tales). As for public land hunting deer. That’s turned into quite the grind, bow or rifle, competition everywhere. But it’s part of the game and I don’t mind the effort required.
