When I bought my rifle it came with a factory 18.5" 3lbs 5.2oz 6.5 Creedmoor barrel.

Included with the purchase was a 223 conversion kit.

The barrel was heavy...like super-duper heavy...weighing in at 4lbs 7.7 oz. The barrel is 18.5" long.

It spent years in the safe. Every once in a while I'd kick it around to post it for sale or trade but never did. A friend turned me onto the .223 for deer, moose, bear and everything else thread here so I sent it to LRI to lighten the load and set it up to hunt with the 77gr TMK to join in the fun.

The barrel is basically a work of art in itself now.

I'm sighted in with some 73gr ELD-Ms. My goal was to sight in with 77gr TMK but I overlooked purchasing a shell plate when I picked up the bullets and the dies.

The 2 suppressors in the photos below vary greatly in weight, my 223 suppressor is full auto rated but they got me really close with the 223 setup to my "regular" hunting setup in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Something I didn't expect is their website has a great progress tracking feature, so you don't have to bother them with questions about status, etc. The website will email you status reports as your barrel progresses thru their manufacturing process.

LRI did a great job.

It's a Desert Tech SRS A2 with the factory provided stock.

Iv got nothing but good to say about LRI.

Their internet portal that catalogues the progress of work is what every smith should aspire to have.
I agree. Exceptional work and I found that portal to be rather refreshing. They seem to have things figured out.

I’m so glad to see this thread. Just today my first item sent to them got finished and shipped. I never thought I’d have it back for my Jan 4 Texas hunt.

Tikka t3x 6.5 creedmoor chopped to 17”, threaded, “wrought iron” fluted the barrel and bolt.

The progress updates are awesome. If anyone ever asks you “what is the opposite of ATF?” it’s LRI.

Final weight on bare rifle after the work?
I'll have to circle back on that one in the future, I'd have to take the scope off and I'm not sure if I'll have time to sight back in before we hunt white-tailed deer again.

LRI has been the industry standard for a custom gunsmith for years and they keep getting better. I have a Mausingfield/Proof barreled action from them.

I went ahead and took the rifle apart.

I've been wanting to take the extra scope rings off it that came with the scope.

The Desert Tech SRS A2 with the LRI modded barrel is around 7lbs 2.5oz.

The furniture bumps on the handle and the hypoptic cheek pad are probably around .2 oz.

As tempting is it is to put an RMR on it and go do something different, I'm going to reassemble it.

Just had a .300wm rebarrel and a stock inletted by LRI. While it was a challenging build based on expectations vs mag length restrictions and it had a bit more jump than I wanted, it shoots lights out so they haven’t heard any complaints from me.

Also props to them for having the intestinal fortitude to even hear me out after the word Howa. Everyone else that I spoke with thought it was blasphemous to believe that Howa makes a better action than the factory Remingtons.

That turned out great! I'm about to send a barreled Tikka action to LRI. Going to have them chop the barrel to 16.5" and thread with a collar for a suppressor. Will have them flute the bolt as well. Looking forward to the results after seeing this thread!

LRI is obviously in the gun business, but they're also in the making money business. Lots of gunsmiths will tell you that you need xxxxx and tell you that you don't want xxxxx. Chad will do almost anything you want to pay for as long as it doesn't create a safety issue.

Most guys here will never know but DTA are some of the nastiest rifles available in all the right ways.

They are very cool and seem to be crazy accurate and new barrels/cartridge changes are a breeze but the ergos just aren't that fun for shooting or general use. Unless you have a very heavy/long barrel they are super ass heavy. There isn't much space on the rear for good rear support. Front support is usually very close to trigger which makes it less stable. Then there's the whole thing with the bolt being a ways behind the trigger that just makes it slower. The whole configuration makes carrying it awkward.

Had one. Shot awesome in 6.5x47 and 300 Norma conversions. Just too many compromises unless overall length is a huge priority.

Back when I was spending money I shouldn't have been I went with the AI over a DT for trigger reasons. But as you said if OAL is a huge deal they're nice.
