I have read many if not almost all the threads on boots here and basically decided I did not want Gore-Tex in my boot for this go-around. Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts on these two boots if you have tried either or both of them. Thanks for any info. Also does Zamberlan have anything like the IBEX that is Gore-tex free?

This is an absolute personal opinion answer on my behalf. But I have a pair of the baffing by lowa and I recently ordered my father a pair of han wag boots. I feel a large difference in quality between the two manufacturers. With lowa having the edge in quality. Just thought id throw that out there. And others may have different opinions. But I felt dollar for dollar on materials/quality the lowas were a much greater boot start to finish.

Wow Hardstalk going against the grain. I like it, tell me more about the boots you have and what quality's you felt were better. I will be honest, I have never seen or tried any of these type of boot before. So all opinions and thoughts are very welcome.

I'm reading and checking out the Lowa's now what made you choose the baffin vs the Tibet etc? Just trying to figure out what differences all these makes and models have..

Some are the newer versions. I believe the baffins are an older model but I got both of them, lowas and hanwags. Highly discounted. Boots are something I always keep an eye out for in the classifieds. I couldn't bring myself to cough up the 400 for new boots. After trying the lowas I could now buy new if necessary. I scored the lowas for 100 and the hanwags for 125.00 the lowas I took to the boot shop and had them stretched just a touch width wise and they fit like a glove. The hanwags I had to have stretched up in the tongue area for my dad. Usually when you find " used" on quality boots such as lowas. They are such a quality item people take great care of them and they are resoleable if the tread is a bit worn.

I have a pair of yukons now and I just ordered the lowa tibet ll yesterday. I will soon own both and be able to tell more soon. I like the yukons but after breaking them in they are slightly too big. The yukon is a medium stiff hiking boot while the tibet is supposed to be a stiffer backpacking boot. When I put my pack on and went to my Florida hill , lol, I found the limits of support in my yukons. On steep side of the hill , an eroding ancient sand dune, the boot flexed over and just lost it. The fact that they are a half size too big didn't help either. Hanwag has not imported the new leather lined Ancash boot so I decided to try the Lowa Tibet leather lined. The Tibets should be stiffer . I believe the Lowa Baffin Pro boots are being discontinued and replaced by the Tibet LL . They trimmed a little weight and changed the color is all I can tell. I got the Tibet LL for $262 to my door so I couldn't pass them up. The Yukons are a very nice boot if you are not loaded up heavy and I got them for $154 so I can't complain. I just wish I had discovered the size issue before STP sold out of them.

Iwill also add that I emailed Hanwag about the Ancash LL and it took two weeks to get back to me and their answer was to direct me to the gtx version and I could get on an email list for when the goretex version became available. I sent another email asking if any of their European web dealers had them and would ship to the US. That was over a month ago...crickets. Hanwag customer service leaves a lot to be desired. If the Lowas are equal or better then Hanwag is history for me.

Lathrop and Sons switched to Lowa for a few reasons! I think the growing customer service issues with Hanwag had a lot to do with it.

I have hunted quite a bit both for mountain goats and sheep in both Lowas (Hunter GTX model) and Hanwags (Alaskans) and I would say there are both very similar in how they preform. I also have an older pair of the Lowa Hunter GTXs that are nearly down to racing slicks for tread after 5 years of hard use that are left to mainly just being used for moose hunting and what not where traction isn't a huge concern. The bonus is with all that tread gone they are now the UL version of the Lowas Hunter boots .:D I personally don't think you can go wrong with either brand (Hanwag or Lowa) and they both fit very similar IMO.

I'm guessing the Baffin Pro and the Tibiet LL are pretty much the same boot just with a slightly different look and possibly a different flex?

It looks like the rand and the back of the boot are a little higher on the Baffin pro. They cut the back down more on the Tibet for hiking and cut the rand to save weight ?

Their are to many choices on boots. I go from one to the next haha they are all probably great but its a tough call when you have to spend that much money and have nowhere to try them on near ya.

I bought this last pair from a company that ships them both ways free so if they don't fit I just drop them back into the box and drop them off at my ups counter.
