Has anybody had to make the switch from right to left handed bows ???? how hard was it for you ?? Iam loosing my eyesight in my right eye to AREDS at age 46 so I am going to have to switch pretty soon as it is advanced to someone that is in there 70,s. I just wonder how hard it is going to be , I already shot with both eyes open ,always have even with shot gun. I am just kind of freaking out about going left on the bow, I am left handed in writing and eating, but shoot right , fish either way, throw right, so maybe it wont be as bad as it seems........

I switched because I am left eye dominant, best archery related decision I ever made. It wasn't hard at all. Other than having my foot work wonky a few times at the beginning.

Good luck with the eyes. My dad is going through similar things.

I would say you'll be alright with lots of practice, sorry to hear about that predicament. Going to feel extremely awkward at first but give it a couple months of consistent practice and it will start to feel right. I'm a righty but have given some thought to buying a left handed bow as my backup/practice bow because my right shoulder is kind of wonky from years of baseball. Just some crunching and grinding sounds and occassional flareups of pain for now, but guessing that isn't going to get any better as I age.

You'll probably shoot better if you are right handed....stronger and more stable bow arm. I'm right-handed but left eye dominant so made the switch. Still have to think about it for a second if I have not shot the bow for awhile.

I am right handed and left eye dominant. I made the switch. You will pick it fairly fast and forget all about the other way. Our bodies adapt so fast.

You should talk to your optometrist/eye doctor a bit more. AREDS is a study on Age Related Eye Disease... Not a disease. The AREDS and AREDSII studies were done to study the nutritional effects of vitamins A,C,E, Zinc, Zeaxanthin, and mesozeazanthin on the progression of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Thus, I assume the confusion is actually coming from what they told you to take as a supplement rather than the actual disease process.

That said... Technically speaking you CANNOT have age related macular degeneration before the age of 55. For you to have actual AMD in the 40's is extremely rare (read: nearly impossible.) That said there are a family of macular diseases including things ranging from familial drusen to pattern dystrophy. All of these can start early in life... MOST of these do NOT lead to blindness.

Long story short... If you have AMD you are a 1 in a million case, if you have one of the others, it may not lead to blindness.

Please PM with any questions you have.

Joe

I am right handed and always shot everything right handed until I lost my right eye (dominant eye). I now shoot bow, rifle, shotgun, and pool left handed. It didn't take much for me to adjust to any of it, I just picked up my rifle and started shooting and went out and bought a left handed bow, but I didn't really have an option either... Mostly it comes down to practice, but if you already know the fundamentals of shooting, you should catch on quick!!
