looking at a kayak for stand-up fishing, if possible, and all around use

I took a quick look at that Ascend and can't imagine it tracking very well, plus I believe you're going to get blown around in any kind of wind a good bit with that high profile.

I only have fishing experience with sit on tops, and would repeat what's been said above. You probably will find easier paddling and greater hauling capability with a longer boat.

Unless you're spending a lot of time on tiny creeks or deep in the swamp, a 10-foot kayak would not be my first choice, though I believe every self-respecting swamper should own one.

Whether you stick with a ten-footer or decide to move up, I'd look for a used boat from one of the makers that specializes in fishing yaks. (And I'd go sit-on-top). All of them have a boat they rate "most stable" for stand-up fishing.

There are some really good boats mentioned in this thread. I would put in a good word for Nucanoe. They are very stable, great haulers, flexible in layout and propulsion, and moderately priced compared to most other good fishing kayaks. They are a bit on the heavy side, and if you are paddling you can get blown around. However, they are probably as flexible as you can get for adding alternate propulsion.
