I got the backcountry one and though its not camo i think everything else fits the bill, super packable and warm, athletic fit with a dove tail to cover your crack! But I got grey and just toss a light jacket over it and am back to camo.. .Just a thought.

Ok I'm looking for a new puffy jacket. Any one got any ideas???? Here's what I want in one. Lite, will keep me warm with a layer or 2 at 11/12k in late September. Have a some what quieter shell. I'm thinking maybe not down, more like primaloft so if it gets wet I stay warm, camo also, I want it to pack down small. Maybe a hood, but dose not have to. I'd like it to be maybe a little longer, so it dose not ride up my lower back. I have a puffy that i wear skiing and it's great. But it's a bright blue and the outside shell would get ripped apart, it's very thin. That jacket only cost me $70. If i could only get the same jacket in camo with a tougher shell. I buy one. Ed

If you want it to last a decent amount of time, I would avoid the 10/15d fabrics. They are light, but very short lived under field conditions. No matter how much I try, I just can't seem to baby them enough in the field to make it work. They are designed as mid-layers, but it's rare that I actually use them that way while hunting. A quality 20d+ fabric is usually ok for my uses.

Weight to warmth the superdown can not be beat.

I got a gunmetal one and where it quite a bit.

Kuiu super down hooded- 2.5 oz down-10 oz total weight. Ratio of .25 oz of down per one ounce.

Brooks Range mojave- 6 oz down -16oz total weight. Ratio of .375 oz of down per one ounce.

Im going with the mojave

I have really enjoyed my First Lite uncompahgre puffy. I use it as and everyday jacket also.

It is called a down jacket, "puffy" sounds so super gay! Been wearing down for 30 years and never referred to my jacket as a puffy, LOL.

If you want to be a mountain hunter its called a down jacket. If you want to walk Fifi and Fofoo in Central Park its called a puffy. :p:p:p

What if it's synthetic? Would you still call it down? I prefer the term puffy as a generalized category.

I just found this thread.
I'm super happy with my First Lite Uncompahgre (except spelling it) I think I put 30 days on mine last year. Performed well in snowy weather down to zero. Holding together great. No issues

I agree Robby!

The Uncompahgre was my favorite new piece of gear last year. Light, warm, windproof, tough, versatile, and replaces multiple layers.

Would the first lite fit under the kuiu guide jacket like the super down or is it thicker?

I layered mine under a guide jacket a couple times. It was a bit tighter fit, but still worked fine. The thing is, the Unc. has a much tougher shell than most puffy's and acts like a softshell anyway. i didn't end up layering it much because of this, and when I did run an outer layer, it was usually a hard shell in the rain or late season.

The Unc. runs large though, so I would recommend sizing down, especially if you are going to layer it a lot.

I have Kuiu down and the NF Thermoball hooded. Both are great. They'll be in the truck and if there's any moisture in the air I'd take the NF. Though down I like more it's hard to argue 'if it gets wet....' argument

I sent kuiu an email that they should make a tougher outer shell version of their puffy. Though heavier, it should well really well to us eastern tree stand guys on chilly nights and the weight wouldn't matter. I tore my brand new one first trip out on the corner of the truck cap....very fragile.
