Looking 4 a new puffy jacket any ideas?

Ok I'm looking for a new puffy jacket. Any one got any ideas???? Here's what I want in one. Lite, will keep me warm with a layer or 2 at 11/12k in late September. Have a some what quieter shell. I'm thinking maybe not down, more like primaloft so if it gets wet I stay warm, camo also, I want it to pack down small. Maybe a hood, but dose not have to. I'd like it to be maybe a little longer, so it dose not ride up my lower back. I have a puffy that i wear skiing and it's great. But it's a bright blue and the outside shell would get ripped apart, it's very thin. That jacket only cost me $70. If i could only get the same jacket in camo with a tougher shell. I buy one. Ed

There is like a 10 page ongoing review of puffys just a few posts down in this same forum. From what I can read, all the top companies make good stuff. My only experience is with the KUIU SD, and I love it.

I had a KUIU Spindrift and sold it to get a First Lite uncompahgre. I'm glad I did. The First Lite is a great jacket and I wear it a lot. I'm 5'11" and 175 and the medium is perfect.

X2. Have found my Kuiu Superdown to be excellent puffy. I also have the Feathered friends daybreak Hooded, and it is a piece of crap in comparision. Only wore it for one trip with loads of down coming out of the seams.

If you are looking for a base layer, check out Golite's site. They run crazy sales all the time. I got a badass 850fil for $99. It compares to any other jacket I own including Marmot, Northface and Mountain Hardware.

I run a Monte Bell jacket in my pack as well as a pair of matching pants on the early hunts. I believe they are the Thremawrap series. Works very well. I wear them full time on Late season Alberta big game hunts and I really like it when chasing cats at -25 - -30C.

Weight to warmth the superdown can not be beat.

I got a gunmetal one and where it quite a bit.

I have a couple large Spindrifts (13.75 oz.), a large hooded Mountain Hardwear Compressor (17 oz.), and a XL hooded Kuiu super down (11oz.). The Kuiu SD is the warmest, with the MH coming in second and Spindrift last for warmth. That all being said, I probably wear the Spindrift the most.

i have several puffy's.. i dont have the First Lite. i have the Superdown..it is a fantastic jacket. wearing it, it feels weightless. it is super warm. it is cut long so it doesn't ride up my back. the thing packs down so small. my XL jacket crushes down to a ball about the size of my two fist held together. the camo is cool looking, and i have often worn it as a daily jacket..altho the grey one would be a better choice for that..haha.

you're lucky..you have a lot of options. i love options.

-Bitteroot Water Repellent Down Jacket (850 Fill Hydrophobic Down) 13 oz - $199
-Wenatchee (Primaloft One Synthetic Insulation) 1 lbs - $99

I have the Bitteroot and its my favorite puffy coat. Great jacket for the $$$. Though the Kuiu SD hoody and the Kryptek Aquillo look interesting as well I have never worn either so can't comment and likely won't unless my GoLite Bitteroot explodes and falls apart for some reason, but for how I use my puffy coats I don't see that happening.

I almost picked up the Bitteroot, but opted for the Selkirk instead to get weight and bulk down in my pack. Crazy light (6 oz), but definitely not intended (nor recommended by Golite) as an outer layer.

I love my thermoball. Best puffy I have ever owned and I e owned quite a few. I believe it has the best ratio for heat:weight out there for a synthetic. I want to get my hands on a hooded version one day.
