Yes or the other way around really.isn’t this just 260 rem?

Short action ultra mag at 56gr powder capacity? Pretty certain the 284 win was dubbed the first short "magnum" 7mm cartridge circa 1963.If you think about it the 7-08 was really one of the first short action ultra mags. I've had mine for over 30 years and have been loading for it the entire time. I do use my 7mag when I'm hunting larger out of state critters, but my 7-08 has killed a ton of blacktails and hogs.

I love all my 260s also. The slow rifle twist is holding them back. I'm considering rebarreling with a faster twist.Yes, at the beginning when it came out I made brass from 308 and 243. I love my 260 and think the 7mm-08 is a really good cartridge too.
I'm waffling between the 7mm-08 and 280ai for my one North American rifle to do it all. I currently live on the east coast and so the 7-08 is really appealing. If I ever move west though, it would be nice to have the juice to take a moose at 400 if required. Maybe I'll get a Tikka T3x in 7-08 for now and if I do move...beautiful cartridge IMO
I love the 7-08. It’s probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
I really like the ackley version. It’s my go to rifle for pretty much everything at this point. I still have a couple .300 win mags that don’t get much use anymore and a .243 that sits in the safe mostly.
I mean what’s not to like about a 140gr absolute hammer at 3005fps or a 162gr eldx at 2820fps?
Yup. 24” proof carbon barrel chamber in 7-08ai with a 40° shoulder. Those speeds must be a AI?
