And just like that little Johnny Hate and Joey Betterthanyou turned the evening air into the sound of crickets as they all hopped away to hug, cuddel and spoon.

650 yards on a plains whitetail buck. Been a few between 450 and 600 though. The right equipment makes a huge difference. Learned a lot the last 10 years. All that and still really looking forward to patched roundballs, iron sights, a Hawken rifle and corn fields on the eastern plains this fall.

I will add some other than the bear posted earlier. I have several antelope from 975 to 1300 all one shot kills with a 30 win and a 215 or the 338 Terminator with a 300 gr. 3 elk from 1000 to 1200 with same rifles all one and done.

Coyotes, many between 700 and 1000 and one at 1500 and one at 1790. Will admit to scaring several over 1000 though.

Head shot called on a rock chuck at 961 yards with a 300 win and a 215. All that was showing was shoulders up. Had a a few spotters on that one too. No tracking required.

My longest kills have been 78 yards on elk with a bow, 1106 on a bear with a 300 RUM and 43 yards on a sage rat with a Ruger Mark III pistol and open sights!

Thanks to all that posted. Interesting to me is the range of the distance of shots. Thanks again, mtmuley

512 and 401 yards on elk with a 300 Weatherby. 489 on elk with a 7mm Remington Magnum. 290 yards on a mule deer with a 300 Weatherby. Not bad for an Eastern guy who never shot a white-tail in Pa. or New York over 100 yards with a rifle. I doubt I will ever shoot over 500 yards but you never know. Good luck all!

I shot a cow elk at 550 last year, I ran out of cover and almost out of light. First shot killed her, but she didn't move or anything next shot hit a few inches from the first, 30 seconds later she tipped over. Never took a step from where the first one hit her, she just stomped her back left leg.

7mm Rem mag, 150 gr. federal fusion.

601 on a buck mule deer with a 143 grain ELD-X in my 6.5 Creedmoor. Bang flop. 797 on an antelope with a 190 Berger in my 300 WSM. I won’t sit here and say I’ve never missed though!

I have a self imposed limit of 300 yards as I use 2-7 scopes, but had to shoot a goat follow up shot at a little over 400 after a bullet failure at 200. No I’m not mentioning the bullet, that’s another thread.

736 paces with a 7mm Rem Mag. for whitetail. 605y for mulies. I try to get them within 500 if at all possible due to wind call errors and time of flight giving the animal time to move. That said, I practice at 1200 so that the 600y shot is easy and intuitive so matter the situation.

928 on a south Texas whitetail.

Dead calm and with a rifle that feels like an old friend. Max distance is a function of the conditions you’re in that day, and how much practice time you’ve invested. With wind (any at all, I’m admittedly not great at calling wind) or less experience (never would have tried that shot 2 yrs ago) that shot wouldn’t have been doable for me.
