Gpa gave me a mid 70’s (mid 60’s?) REM 700 7mm mag back when I moved to Montana.

Never got to take anything with it, but am building points for a Colorado early season high country muley hunt.

I put a decent Vortex scope on it, haven’t shot it much recently and want to.

Wondering what loads you all would try out of it?

Thanks!

Never shot much factory ammo out of mine, how far you comfortable shooting? Do you reload?

Hello sir, no I don't reload.

I'm not exactly sure how far out the 7mm Mag is lethal to, more of a bowhunter honestly. I shot it when I lived in Montana out to 800 yards and felt pretty comfortable.

In a hunting situation, if the rifle could take down a mule deer, I'd keep shots inside of 500

It’s capable of killing animals farther than 99% of people need to be shooting at animals, and that includes me lol I’d recommend something around 160 grains, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about the lighter monos. A few years ago it would be easy to buy a few different kinds of ammo and see what shoots best in your rifle but honestly seeing how things are now, I say buy a box or two of what’s available and see how it does. Federal, Barnes, Nosler, the common names all make ammo that will kill deer to 500
