Tried to find an answer to this but didn’t see it- my apologies in advance if this is clear on another thread.

I have an 8# 6.5 PRC that I run with a muzzle brake so relatively low weight and recoil. Is shooting it off a slik 633, with the goal of getting out to 400 or 500 yards for backpack hunting, not really practical? I like the weight, adjustability, and price of that tripod but not sure…

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Practice and find your max range. Sitting and shooting off a Trigger Sticks tripod I am in that 4-500 yard range. Beyond that I dont think I can be consistent.

How high up? Standing, sitting?

Sitting, you will have good enough stability for shots inside 400 or so. You can probably get more stability building up a good position.

You won’t get good stability off the extended column.

Ditch the tripod. Long range is way more effective of bipod in prone.

If you really want the tripod run a couple hundred rounds off the tripod so you can learn what you can and can't do.

There are ways to use a tripod that is as stable as prone for all practical purposes. But yeah, tripods need a few hundred rounds with good practice.
