Sectional density is your friend in frangible bullets. That's why the lighter 6.5s are of less interest to me in addition to the BC loss.
I sighted in the 100 ELDVTs I’m gonna shoot a couple does at some point in December. Not sure what I’ll get for pictures, depends on when and where I can get them but I’ll report back!
The 120 NBT is a great bullet in the 6.5 Grendel and have worked well in my 260 too.The 100 grain Ballistic Tip is a great deer and pig bullet, as is the 120
Would the 130 class bullets be a happy middle ground for a 6.5? I just bought a 6.5 tikka with the intent to rebarrel to a 6 creed. But after discussing the cost with my gunsmith for barrel and rechamber, I’m second guessing if it’s worth it.
I wanted an 18” barrel, but realize with the 6.5 I’d be sacrificing more velocity than I wanted with the heavier rounds. Hence the reason for the 130 consideration.
What velocity are you getting with that?I have an 18” 6.5 creed tikka and am really happy with 130 grain bullets. I use 130 ELDM for practice ammo and then 130 TMK for hunting. Recoil is tolerable, though more than a 6 creed or 6 arc with the 108 ELDM.
My plan is to shoot out the 6.5 barrel in the next few years and then go with a 6ARC or 6 Creed when I rebarrel.
Have you considered trying the 107 TMK in the 6.5? Just had a buddy work up some hand loads for me in them. Accuracy seems good, gotta locate my chrono to determine speed and will report back.I shot a pretty small doe fawn tonight with them. Bullet dramatically destroyed basically both lungs, damaged the liver and even broke the stomach. Very very explosive. Estimated impact velocity of 2600 FPS out of a 18” sig cross. Killed the deer dramatically but I’m probably not going to continue to use them on deer. I’m not a terminal ballistics expert but they make me a little nervous on shot angle on a bigger deer. Maybe they’d do just fine but I didn’t recover anything other than shrapnel. I’d be nervous about shot angles I don’t think twice about with the 147 ELDM.
