Hey guys, I lucked onto something awesome that I wanted to share with you since some of you aren’t optics junkies and don’t hit the optics forum much. I’m pretty stoked. The Athlon Ares spotter is really light and packable with good glass. Check out my review that I’ve linked below.

Every time I read one of the pieces fawning over the latest greatest thing, in this case a spotting scope I feel an itch to check it out and maybe buy a spotter. But then I catch myself...my 12x binocs work fine, are lightweight and are paid for and I don’t need a spotter, I packed a swarovski once and it never left camp. And I get that same itch reading about the new wizbang sleeping bag or tent or rifle, etc...thank god I’m older and wiser now and keep my wallet in my pocket lol!
Hunting magazines are great at making you feel like your current setup could be vastly improved upon and who doesn’t want that?

There are definitely hunting uses where you really need a spotter and really don’t. No worries on where you fall there.

Where I hunt, semi open country, and how I hunt, deer and elk for mature animals it is a must. Any deer hunter who doesn’t shoot just any buck needs 15x or a spotter but that’s just my opinion.

It is really sweet that this is 50mm spotter size essentially with 65mm capability.
