Lever Action anyone?

How do you like it? Thinking about getting the wife one in that same caliber. How’s the recoil?
Before I did anything to it, I carried it on some deer hunts in NZ with iron sights. It handles super comfortably, very balanced, and I found the open sights quite usable.
I added a scope to get to longer range, and I've had some success...but it is not the most accurate rifle I own. It's not a free-floated barrel which probably has a lot to do with it.
Now that it's chopped and suppressed, the volume and recoil is definitely better and very manageable. I forgot my ear pro the other day and actually wasn't bothered at all. It's a little less balanced and forward heavy, but also more accurate, likely to do with less recoil. Lever actions are so fun to shoot and cycle, I recommend.

Just picked this up in 270 wsm. Trigger is a little heavy, but crisp when it does break. Bought used off GB for a good deal and not a single scratch on it.

Hoping it groups well and I can bring it out this Fall. Coolness factor off the charts. Thinking some 130 partitions at ~3300 fps will be fun.

Any recommendations for loads in this rifle?

I've killed deer with Marlins chambered in .35 Rem, .375 Winchester, .41 mag, and .45/70. I have a peep sighted 1949 Marlin 336 in .32 Wiinchester Special that has been to the deer woods several times but I have not yet had a shot opportunity.

Bringing this thread back to life because I love seeing lever guns. I hunted off and on with a 336 in 30-30. I was never able to seal the deal. I bought my dream lever gun this year and had some work done to make it perfect for me. Drew a doe tag, so the new lever was up to bat. It did not disappoint and I see many more long days in the woods with it by my side. Straight stock, big loop, side gate, threaded, Cerakote (they don’t make a stainless with pretty wood), made in USA. Open sights work perfect and I am a huge fan of the 6 o’ clock hold, so it works perfectly with the suppressor. My hunting partner commented, “I thought you were shooting deer with a 22.”
115-120 yard shot.

I’d love to see more lever gun photos.

Shot my first deer with a Marlin 336 dark. A couple years later they went under and people started paying ridiculous money for them, so it went on gunbroker. Got near $3k for it selling as an auction. I regret selling it only a little. I want another 336 someday.

What bullet did you use out of that 357

I did a ton of homework, picked the underwood 158gr xtp this time. I got perfect performance. She didn’t make it 50 yards with a good blood trail, even in the rain.

I planned to load for it but I got the rifle a week before the hunt. My plan for next year is to load hot 158’s for the long shots, and 180xtp loaded subsonic for close range areas (sub 75 yards). The 158’s at 130 yards from the rifle have the same velocity as factory rounds from a 4” revolver (at the muzzle).

Awesome thanks I'll look into it!

I’ve posted in this thread before, so this is kinda a follow up to that one I guess.
I’ve posted this in another thread as well.

Anyways, I was able to shoot out to two hundred yards with my handloads, and was very happy with the results.
160 gr. Hornady FTX, with one grain less than max of Leverevolution powder, Starline brass, and #200 CCI primers.
Averaging right around 2355 fps.
Where I hunt I probably won’t have any chance to shoot that far, and most likely wouldn’t if I did, but it’s nice to know that I could, with the energy at two hundred being approximately 1260 ft/lbs, within ethical ranges.
Bottom shot was with the bead even with the top of the target, and the top two shots were with the bead resting on top of the target.

Been eyeballing one of these. They look so wrong but feel so right. Lol

If it had iron sights I already would have brought it home. A supressed 30/30 with irons just sounds fun. Especially with iron sights only seasons on the horizon.
