Well I had mine in an XLR and while it was a blast at the range it was just too heavy and bulky for what I’ll likely do with it.

I grabbed a stockys with the discount code they threw us last month and sent the barreled action to LRI to get chopped to 17” and have the barrel and bolt fluted. I’ll shoot it tomorrow for the first time.

I'm really surprised there is enough material to flute it.
I figured the superlite is just the lite with flutes so same thing. I did go back and forth on whether I should remove material. I don’t regret it after todays range session.
Any issues with accuracy after that much material is removed off the barrel?

Only shot it today but I posted the groups up above after sighting in. Small strings of shots at 100 were 1/2” and 5/8”. I moved in 100’s out to 600 yds alternating 5 shot groups with my BIL and we kept it 1-1.5 moa with a gusty 10-15 mph right off the ocean.

Shoots just like before to me.

From dope gathering today looks like the 17” barrel has me almost dead on 2,500 fps with 140 eld-m which exceeds 1,700 fps past 600 yards. I’ll likely never shoot at an animal more than half that distance with this particular gun.

Update for first range day.

30 degrees out and pretty windy.

Shot all factory ammo. Started off with 143 ELDX at 2870fps and they grouped the worst at almost 3moa. Shot 3 rounds of 147ELDM and was getting 2840fps at 1.25 moa. Then shot Choice ammo 156 eol. They were shooting 2900fps. First 3 shot .5 moa if not better. Then 2 groups of 2 moa. The last two I’m thinking wind something to do with it but that’s a lot of movement in my eyes. Also bolt lift was slightly harder than normal. Not sure what that’s about. IMG_4924.jpeg

I suspect if you shot 10+ round groups of each, that they would all group similarly and that your ability to shoot this rifle is currently limited to about 2ish MOA. That's just my experience based on shooting different factory ammos through the same gun in small groups, and then doing the same again in larger groups.

Very nice, any issues converting it to left hand? What's it chambered for?
It was pretty straight forward. I got the stock as “unfinished blank” and filled in the bolt channel with bedding material… i had to build up a few other spots to fit the action nicely but it was a good project. I cut the left handed bolt channel using the edge of a file, bedded it and painted it up.
Its a 300wsm.

Thanks, sounds good. A Tikka in 300 WSM is a nice rifle especially in left hand.

126 pages of Tikka‘s on here so I figured this would be a good place to ask this question. What is the best receiver length picatinny rail for the tikka t3x?
