I’ve got a Mesa on my 7-08 and had a Mesa on the 7 prc before trying the Stocky
Of the 2 examples I’ve had from each company I’ve found-
The Stocky’s were several ounces lighter than my Mesa’s
The Stocky’s both had more quality issues than both Mesa’s. The Mesa’s were both good to go out of the box. The Stocky’s were both very tight on the action, the bottom metal didn’t quite sit right, neither came with recoil lugs like they were supposed to, and both came covered in scuffs and scratches. I also couldn’t get the Mountain Tactical mags to seat/feed with my Stocky, but they did work with my Mesa. I think with additional tinkering I could’ve had it going but ultimately didn’t need them. The front sling swivel stud on my Stocky was set too deep for my picatinny screw, so I had to relieve material from the inside of the stock to let it sit where it needed to for the screw to catch
When shooting I find that on my 7-08 the Mesa works great. I’m able to watch impacts well and really like the stock. I haven’t shot my buddy’s 7-08 with the Stocky yet so i don’t have a direct apples to apples comparison on that cartridge. On my 7 prc I’ve only had 1 range session with the Stocky and 2 with the Mesa. With the additional recoil of the 7 prc I’ve found the muzzle flip is more pronounced with the Mesa. I’m still developing a load so I haven’t taken it out past 100 yet but I find the Stocky to have a little less tendency to want to jump than the Mesa. It’s hard to quantify at 100 yards so I’m interested to see how it does at 4-500.
Accuracy with both has been great. I’ve shot some of my best groups with the Mesa on that 7-08. I like that the Mesa is pillar bedded and wish the Stocky had them.
I think both are great stocks and you get what you pay for with each.
