Correct. If you're buying a new gun I would say buy a 7mm Rem Mag or 300 win mag. That'll get you the magnum bolt face and long action bolt stop. Then buy the Mountain Tactical magazine.
I think he's asking about an xbolt still, not a tikka.

So from what I’m getting here is 30.06 factory mag would work with factory 7prc and the receiver will work. So all I’d need to buy is a magnum bolt and a barrel correct?

Are you still asking about xbolt scenario? If so, no. An xbolt 30-06 mag will likely not work well with the fatter PRC rounds but the PRC should work with other magnums of similar case diameter like 7rm and 300wm.

I dont know the answers to a couple factors with xbolts that you would need to verify before jumping into such a project.
1. Is the receiver used for magnums the same as the receiver used for 30-06 family cartridges?
1a. Can they use bolts with Long action standard bolt face and long action magnum bolt face interchangingly?
1b Is there anything different with the feed ramps between standard and magnum long actions?
2. Is the bottom metal on an xbolt 30-06 and 300wm the same and I.E both magazines fit into it the same.

I suggest you start a new thread about this possibility because this is a tikka thread and people responding think you're talking about a tikka.

Here is my t3x 6,5 Creedmoor. Started out as a Veil model. Changed the barrel to a Lothar Walther stainless, 19", contour very close to CTR barrel profile. 5/8x24 threads for a Ase Utra Radien suppressor. Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x56 on top. KKC stock, pillar bedded and with a CTR metal mags and bottom metal.

Now the question is how should I finish it up? Thinking about having it cerakoted, but can't decide on color. All steel parts matte black would be the safe way to go, but any more personal ideas are more than welcome!

Do you know what the barreled action and stock together weigh? That is a nice looking setup.

I’m very interested in the Stocky’s nextgen carbon VG stocks. I have an Alterra carbon stock that I love, but they are unavailable now and I’m building another tikka and am considering the Stockys VG or waiting to see when Alterra will offer the stocks again or finding a used one.

Any info on the Stockys would be very welcome.

I really like the negative comb and the heel above the bore line on the Alterra, also the asymmetric wrist and palm swell is very natural. How does the geometry on the Stockys compare? Anyone have experience with both.

Anyone have an Alterra for sale?

I recently reached out to Allterra. They stated they would start making their carbon stocks inleted for Tikkas again. Who knows when this will happen.

I’m reworking a 300 WSM and planning on having a Bartein barrel made for it. I have a Dead Air Armament 7.62 Sandman S (6.8”) that I plan of using. How short can I have the barrel cut?

I just got a 20” Carbon six. With an Omega can on it, it’s a little shorter than the factory Roughtech configuration with the factory brake. That said, I think you could go 18” and be good.

So I agree BUT.

I called silencerco last week before I ordered my 20” C6 for a 7wsm to confirm they were holding tight to their 20” restriction on magnum calibers…..they wouldn’t budge and said would void any warranty going shorter.

So I went 20. Made me sad but I guess I get an extra 50fps and a bit less muzzle blast. Additionally in a wsm 18-20” is getting real close to 100% burn (according to QL) with most powders. I didn’t see any loads at 20 that weren’t fully burned.

EDIT: 2x BUT he’s using a dead air….disregard. ;)

I didn’t buy the suppressor for this rifle, that just happens to be what I have. I listed the specifics so if anyone has any experience with it or I suppose an opinion that could possibly benefit or persuade, I’m interested as it was intended to be used on an entirely different set up.
To be honest my bank account is victim of this forum, I had no idea I wanted to redo a rifle until I started reading this thread and I still have limited knowledge of what the heck I’m even doing.
So I said all that to say, I don’t speak emoji either, is there a point hiding in your post?

Bartein has don’t more than a lot of companies these days in that they actually answer the phone and try and answer questions. They did question why I would want to cut the barrel off at 18” mentioning the powder burning past that. At the time I only mentioned using a muzzle break and said I would consider adding a suppressor later.

If “semi” can be stretched a bit i guess I can play. Have 6.5mb and 270 barrels for it. 6.5 for practice and .270 to shoot factory-loaded monos a bit zippier. Both factory barrels keep 5 under an inch pretty consistently and dont seem too finicky.
Got a used mcmillan and didnt like the way it fit me. Couldnt stomach the pricetag on an eh1. So this is my ”custom” t3x lite stock w/ barrel channel opened and a takeoff CTR cheek riser and the vertical grip, it fits me a lot better this way.
CTR rail w/ seekins/vortex low rings
S&B 3-12x42 just back from getting a turret installed

Technically a "custom" Tikka, I wanted a left hand 260 Rem so I got a great deal on a RH gun and had a gunsmith put the barrel on a lightly used left hand gun he had come in. The gun shoots really well and I'm happy with how it turned out. I bought a M+ magazine and modified the bolt stop myself. Works perfectly with the way it's throated and highly recommend those with the 308 family rounds to do the same.
