Almost all of these big bores will be going to gunbroker on consignment along with 40 or so more rifles and handguns and a few sub-machine guns in the near future. Getting older and time to downsize my wonderful collection to something more reasonable and unfortunately my 2 sons don't have a want for them.
There is just nothing more satisfying than shooting a big bore rifle, or handgun for that matter.
Winchester 1886 in 45/70
Originally built in 1893
My grandpa gave it to me last winter and it’s getting the original stock and metal butt plate put back on this winter.
One of these days I’m going to! I browse Turnbulls website weekly looking at Doug’s work! Definitely want it color cased and a good work over just to ensure everything is in good shape. If you ever have an inclination to have it restored, Turnbull Customs does some absolutely amazing work on these old guns.
Let me know when you are ready to thin the herd!No pics' but....

I like both equally. Hunted a few Cape buffalo with both calibers.Very cool guns. IIRC, the Rigby shoots a .416 bullet, but the Jeffery is actually a .423...what's your experience been with how the two compare against each other, in terms of recoil and general shootability, etc? If you had to choose one over the other, which would you go to?
404 Jeff just has so much historical value and more of a cult following.
The 45-70 Trapper version has become a favorite lever gun. I think it is a pleasure to carry and still maintains some horsepower. I was a long time coming around to the 16"ish barrel. A very handy little carbine.‘Remlin” Trapper .45/70 still new in the box. Impulse buy a few years back

Also have a JM ported barrel GG in 45/70
I understand the 404 Jeffery desire. I had it at one time. But, at least in that case, I let my logic override the desire. Before I took the 404 plunge, I finally decided the .416's that I already had, filled that slot. And at that time, 404 components were not as easy to locate. I still think it is cool cartridge. It'd be cool if winchester made the model 70 safari in .404 jeffrey. I understand why they don't, and what they do offer covers every need on earth, but it'd still be cool to be able to get into the classics for a good price.
Since the cz 550 safari is off the market, I don't think there's an affordable magnum mauser out there anymore?
