Ruger RSM 375 H&H
Dakota 76 375 Dakota
CZ 550 416 Rigby
CZ 550 404 Jeffery

Very cool guns. IIRC, the Rigby shoots a .416 bullet, but the Jeffery is actually a .423...what's your experience been with how the two compare against each other, in terms of recoil and general shootability, etc? If you had to choose one over the other, which would you go to?

No pics' but....

CZ 550 in 505Gibbs(factory recoil reducer in butt)
Ruger RSM in 458Lott
Ruger #1 in 470 Nitro Express(custom) and 450/400 Nitro Express
Winchester 70 Safari Classic's in 375 H&H and 458 Win mag
Ruger Alaskan's in 416Ruger and 375Ruger
Match Grade Arms lightweight in 375 H&H (5.5 lbs)
Ruger M77RS custom in 35 Whelen
Remington 7600 in 35 Whelen with 18.5" barrel
Winchester 1895 TD in 405 Winchester
Winchester 71 in 348 Winchester
Marlin 1895 in 45/70 x2 in stainless and blue
Marlin 1895 in 458GNR in stainless (50 Alaskan necked down to 45 caliber (about 5% under a 458 Win mag)
around 4 or 5 Winchester and Marlin 44mag and 45Colt lever guns
Rossi 480Ruger lever guns in stainless and blue (extremely rare especially the stainless one)
several 338 win mags
several custom 338/06
probably a few i'm forgetting
Probably 5 or so 50 caliber revolvers
Probably 5 or so 475 caliber revolvers

Almost all of these big bores will be going to gunbroker on consignment along with 40 or so more rifles and handguns and a few sub-machine guns in the near future. Getting older and time to downsize my wonderful collection to something more reasonable and unfortunately my 2 sons don't have a want for them.

There is just nothing more satisfying than shooting a big bore rifle, or handgun for that matter.

I had to google that .458GNR. What a cool and interesting cartridge!

If you ever have an inclination to have it restored, Turnbull Customs does some absolutely amazing work on these old guns.
One of these days I’m going to! I browse Turnbulls website weekly looking at Doug’s work! Definitely want it color cased and a good work over just to ensure everything is in good shape.

Clarktar, the list of them is being made today and will be sent to the Gunbroker FFL dealer (Keystone Arms) tomorrow, which is in my state, and I'm going to assume they will be picking them up this week sometime. I'm keeping some of what I have but it's going to be a really tough and sad event.

I like both equally. Hunted a few Cape buffalo with both calibers.
-416 Rigby has a mercury recoil rod and a muzzle beak on it so the recoil is at a 300 WM level. Pleasure to shoot.
404 Jeff just has so much historical value and more of a cult following.

Listing the 416 Rigby for sale soon.

It'd be cool if winchester made the model 70 safari in .404 jeffrey. I understand why they don't, and what they do offer covers every need on earth, but it'd still be cool to be able to get into the classics for a good price.

Since the cz 550 safari is off the market, I don't think there's an affordable magnum mauser out there anymore?

The 45-70 Trapper version has become a favorite lever gun. I think it is a pleasure to carry and still maintains some horsepower. I was a long time coming around to the 16"ish barrel. A very handy little carbine.

I understand the 404 Jeffery desire. I had it at one time. But, at least in that case, I let my logic override the desire. Before I took the 404 plunge, I finally decided the .416's that I already had, filled that slot. And at that time, 404 components were not as easy to locate. I still think it is cool cartridge.
