Let's have a general winter thread.

We are finally starting our remodel in earnest.

Other than that we’ve been ice fishing as much as we can.

Bird season is still open here so I'm nunting every weekend until the end of the month. After that it is running/training bird dogs. At least 4x a week until season starts again next Septmber. I think I'm going to take an English Pointer puppy for a friend and work him he comes up in August for dog camp. That will keep me busy! All age Field Trial prospect.

New Floors in both living rooms over the last few weekends. Painted the one and need to prep yhe panel for paint next.

Feeding and watering cows, checking trap lines, cutting firewood and exercising the dogs. I’m a spring and fall guy, not thrilled with cold or hot weather.

Ice fishing has been bad this year so bought a thermal and going night hunting alot and training the dog when the weather permits. Might go pheasant hunting a few times before the season is over or shoot some more geese.

Just went through a tie-back surgery with our ancient GSP…didn’t think he was gonna pull through but he rallied and is as spry as ever.

In the meantime we have a new GSP Puppy coming in two weeks so I have been refreshing my dog training knowledge. I forgot how much work went into getting my dog on the right path. It’s gonna be a fun winter project.

Started a job running a Pisten Bully 600 grooming machine at the local ski resort. Needed something to keep me busy and will squander whatever I make on outdoors gear and pursuits. Incredible machines but tough hours, graveyard shift. Will guide some hare hunters for a local outfitter on my days off.

Work keeps me busy through the first part of the day, the rest of the day is spent shooting or going for a hike. Can’t complain, at some point the cold winter will actually get here and I’ll be limited on time outside.

Back into ice fishing mode. Was out 2 weekend ago and perch were snapping. Biggest was 12". (Size does matter!) 14-16" of ice.

Wanted to get out this weekend again, but I would have been trolling. Wind was 25-45 MPH and zero visibility. (Interstate was closed most of yesterday)

I want to do a better job of whitetail scouting this winter. Hunting public land and I can no longer depend upon my youth, good looks or experience! But weather (See above)

XC skiing once this season. (One more time than last season!) But it warmed up briefly and iced over trails. An inch or so fell in the past few days, but wind was blowing/so cold trip 2 was not happening this weekend. City should get out grooming trails today. But likely will not get out for several weeks. (See below)

Starting to ramp up for a warm weather get away in Feb. (Belize) Need to get my 9 weight dusted off and find my saltwater fly box. Also will be bringing spinning rod. No excursions booked (yet). Typically can find places for daily shore fishing.

Refocusing on working out. (Gained a few pounds already)

App season. Already got "Dear John" letter from ID. Wyo and ID apps were submitted this weekend. NM and CO to follow.

Hunting wolves a few days every week. To be honest, this is way more fun than hunting ungulates. The hills are virtually empty and when I do get to burn powder, the result is highly satisfying.

That’s a dream retirement job for me, or running a blade, plowing snow for a logging outfit. Love playing in the snow.
