I am about 7 weeks away from making the trek from PA to CO to do my first ever elk hunt, for which we'll be using a wall tent. I'd love to see photos of everyone's base camp set-ups to see if there are any last minute ideas my group can take from your experience! Any component of your camp is welcome (sleeping area, cook station, commode, etc.). Bonus points if it's a winter camp with a little bit of snow! Good luck to everyone already in the woods!

Haha yep. I was blown away by the amount of information everyone shared in that one. This thread is more for fun, and to give me something to dream about over the next 7 weeks.

Shade out front really helps keep the tent cooler and blocks the rain or snow.
Chainsaw to cut down any hazard trees near the tent, we cut a few it seems almost every camp site.
Some added side walls to give you more privacy helps, and adds warmth. We use canvas drop cloths.

At what elevation do you camp in October?
We are heading west next month, weather is tricky, I was thinking 8000-8500 as terrain permit.
This was the first week of October at about 9,000 feet.

Weather was warm/hot during the day. It got down to about freezing at night.

Here’s mine

How is the pop up camper in the winter?
Better than I expected. It's still just a tent and it's drafty so a good sleeping bag helps a lot. The front deck is insanely useful for coolers and generators, it'll hold a 4 wheeler if I had one. I've got pics with the whole thing covered in a couple inches of ice and others with feet of snow up top which makes me nervous but it's never been an issue. Some guys will cut 1x4 supports and zip-tie to the uppers to guard against cable breaks from snow load but I've never heard of that happening. The biggest problem is the water tank will freeze solid. Heater works pretty well considering it's drafty tent, keeps the water pump inside from freezing. Long drives with a layover are a PITA cranking it all up and setting it up just to sleep overnight and pack it back down. One big benefit over a tent I never considered was camping on unlevel ground, we've camped in some crazy places because of the leveling legs where a tent wouldn't work anywhere in the area.
