Ok so in checking out Tikka's at the local Sportsmans Whorehouse I found out that they can order any T3x SS SL for $750, In stock T3x SS SL are on sale for $699, but they dont have 270 wsm, 7 RM, or 300 wsm. I have pretty much eliminated the 270 wsm as about a third of this rifle's duty will be elk hunts, and it is hard to justify starting out with a caliber on the low end of the energy scale for no cost savings.

But they have a 300 WM in both the SS T3x SL and the old T3 SS SL. The old model is currently listed for $650. Hard to argue with the cost savings in a caliber that is a great western combo cartridge. I would have bought it already except for a few concerns. Mag length and how much jump I would have to have to fit. Looking to shoot 180 gr Scirocco, 200ish Accubond or Partition. So mag length will definitely be a factor. The other question is barrel twist. The tikka 30 caliber rifles are all 1 in 11.

Has anyone shot a tikka with hand loads of similar bullets? What was your experience? Both accuracy with the jump, stabilizing the bigger bullet, etc. I'm nearly positive I should have bought it but having just started working up loads for my m70 300wm and running across the same issue, I was just looking for some real world experiences. Thanks again for everyone's help thus far!

I've run assorted long bullets through a 1:11 twisted Tikka 30-06 with no issue. 200 gr NPT, 200 gr ELD-X, and the all copper 175 LRX. The faster MV of a .300 will only be an improvement.

It's true you will have trouble reaching anywhere close to the lands with long high BC bullets. However, as any web search about Tikkas will tell you.... they don't usually require much (or often any) tuning to shoot pretty well regardless. I'd likely only worry about it if shooting heavy VLD's I think. You will have some bullet hanging down into the case with the bullets you mention, but that's the way they come from the factory too.

I'm shooting a T3 300wm with 200 gr Accubonds mag length with great accuracy. A penny can cover 3 shots at 100 yrds.

Oh I totally agree. I've got multiple bulls in the garage that can attest to that fact. But when the 270 wsm is $100 more than the 300 win, it's a tough pill to swallow.

My tikka shoots 180 200 acubonds out of the clip. And 200 grain berger hybrid target out of the clip very well.

My 300WM T3x was sub MOA right out of the gate with 180 gr Accubonds & haven't started dialing in loads.

The tikka short action calibers have no advantage to long action calibers due to tikka only have one size action.

It will work. But U will have to change the bolt stop... If U are looking for longer length in Ur wsm. U can modify Ur bolt stop. Or pick one up. I found one at Brownells

The T3x's that I was looking at the bolt did not seem any different it had the same throw and moved the same distance. Could be something I am missing but they did appear to be the exact same minus the magazine.
