Last minute suppressor vote

Fat chance. Then only lobby on the issue in DC, with the checkbook open, wants to keep prices inflated and prevent competition.

Lobbyist influence is only overcome by 1) other lobbyists, and 2) a loud, active block of voters making their will known. Cynicism, however, is not helpful.
I wish I still had faith in this 2 party system. I really do. Right wing, left wing same bird. My super cynical prediction is the $200 stamp gets knocked down to $0 opening the door for the next administration to kick it up to $2000.

But it’s not a two party system really. We have a lot of parties, most people just choose to vote between two parties.

In some states cannot vote in the primary election if independent.

Copied from yesterdays GOA email:

This is OUR BEST CHANCE to get these pro-gun reforms passed … since the Senate cannot filibuster any pro-gun reforms … and we know that President Trump will sign this “big beautiful” bill.

So please call the Ways & Means Committee at 202-225-3625
and say something like this:

  1. Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m a member of Gun Owners of America and a voter. I am disgusted with the unacceptable compromise that is in the draft text of the reconciliation bill. Currently, the bill does not even contain the SHORT Act, and it makes a pathetic attempt at improving the situation on suppressors.
  2. I would request that the Ways and Means Committee amend the bill by FULLY protecting suppressors and pistol-braced firearms. (The committee can do this by adding Sec. 2 of the Hearing Protection Act and Sec. 2 of the SHORT Act to the bill—which are the sections that delete the suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs from the NFA registry.)
  3. Removing suppressors and pistol braces from the NFA entirely is VERY IMPORTANT so a future Democrat administration doesn’t weaponize the NFA against gun owners like Biden did.
  4. Gun Owners of America will be watching your actions closely and let me know what happens.

FROM NRA:

“The United States House Committee on Ways & Means released the text for the House Reconciliation Bill. Included in this legislation, is a provision which would reduce the National Firearms Act (NFA) tax imposed on suppressors from $200 to $0. However, this legislation would continue to subject suppressors to the other unconstitutional provisions of the NFA.

“The NRA fully supports removal of suppressors from the NFA and will work to achieve that goal as the Reconciliation Process continues,” said John Commerford, Executive Director of NRA-ILA.”

Looks like the suppressor issue is out of the House Ways and Means committee as of this morning. They only reduced the tax to zero leaving suppressors listed in the NFA of 1934.

Latest from NRA-ILA:

“Early this morning, The House Committee on Ways & Means, led by Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO-08) finished a markup of their section of the Reconciliation Bill. Included in this legislation was a provision which would lower the National Firearms Act (NFA) tax levied on suppressors from $200 to $0. This is the first federal firearms tax reduction since the 1960’s. However, under this provision, suppressors would continue to be subject to the other aspects of the NFA.

With this provision in place and the markup completed, the Reconciliation Bill will now be considered by the House Committee on the Budget and will then be considered by the full U.S. House. Before final passage of this important legislation, the U.S. House has the opportunity to improve this provision to fully remove suppressors from the NFA. And once the U.S. House has approved this legislation, it will then make its way to the U.S. Senate for consideration. This provision, along with any other provision in the bill, could be altered or removed at any time before final passage of the bill.

“The NRA fully supports removal of suppressors from the NFA and will work to achieve that goal as the Reconciliation Process continues,” said John Commerford, Executive Director of NRA-ILA.”

As I think I saw mentioned earlier, if they just eliminate the cost of the stamp, I’d expect it to be $2k or worse the next time the political winds shift. Make it zero, and they are going to add 90 years of inflation correction at the first opportunity.
