There is a last minute vote that could remove suppressors from the NRA. Please call the DC switchboard and ask for your representative. Let your voice be heard that you want suppressors removed from the NRA. (202) 224-3121

Can you provide a little more background? Is this trying to get the ways and means committee to include NFA removal or something else?

A quick google sounded like they're considering dropping the tax stamp but keeping the form 4 process and others are hoping they will just fully remove them from the NFA list. I'd love to know more if you're following it more closely.

I assume you are referring to HR 404 Hearing Protection Act that is on the Ways & Means Committee docket? But not seeing anything related to a "last minute vote". Source?

The ASA has a bill tracker and an easy way to send your rep an email. Looks like there are a few bills going through right now.

Be careful what you wish for. While the NFA regulations suck on suppressors, since they are currently considered firearms, they are protected under the 2nd amendment. If they are totally delisted and become an accessory, they can much more easily be banned.

That said, they need to be removed from the NFA purview IMO.

Current talk is that they are now considering relieving the tax stamp fee, but keeping it under the NFA.

No, but when I called my house rep I told her that I wanted suppressors dropped from the NFA completely primarily because of the safety issue of preserving the hearing of our children, really everyone.

The NRA Legislative Team in DC believes that they can get the committee to change the language:

"The NRA fully supports removal of suppressors from the NFA and will work to achieve that goal as the Reconciliation Process continues," said John Commerford, Executive Director of NRA-ILA.

This Reconciliation Bill only requires a simple majority vote in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. There may be time to include language in the Reconciliation Bill which would not only remove the tax, but would remove suppressors from the United States tax code and NFA completely.

The Reconciliation process will go very quickly, and your member of Congress needs to hear from you! In order to improve this legislation and have suppressors completely removed from the NFA, please call your U.S. Representative today and ask them to include Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act in the Reconciliation Bill!”

The original language in committee was to drop the tax from $400 to Zero. But NRA sees the opportunity to have suppressors removed from the NFA. It only takes a majority vote. I think hearing protection is the best argument IMO.

Now that this suppressor change is dead do I move forward with trying to purchase a suppressor the old fashion way or wait for a new attempt at something like this? I am hopeful we are not that far away from the restrictions and cost associated with this process.

People have been telling me they're waiting for the HPA to pass before they get their first suppressor since I got my first ones 10 years ago. Gun owners are too hopeful I don't think it's happening anytime soon.

There is still a tax stamp on the amended bill but they reduced the fee from $200 to $0. I think they vote on it today?

Senate are voting to take the tax down to $0 hopefully in the bill.

And whatever the DOGE team is now, they are looking at some regulation on the ATF side. Says streamlining purchase paperwork and 47 different rules for the 47th president so who knows what is involved there.

100%, if suppressors become more and more common the better chance we have of getting them removed. Waiting for Congress to do anything is just wishful thinking.
