Last call to buy a Wyoming Point

Just a reminder that tomorrow being the last day of October it’s your last chance to buy a preference point in Wyoming. A good investment if you ask me. It only takes 2 or 3 to guarantee a tag depending on if you apply in the regular or special drawings. But everyone has an equal chance in the random draws. I had a friend draw with zero points this year. Good luck!

I couldn't remember if I bought mine but I found out the website won't let you buy a second point if you already purchased one. BUT it will let you buy a second Conservation Stamp...... for the following year.

I bought the deer, elk and antelope points this week, but didn't get in the game early enough this year to apply in the draw(this is my first year applying anywhere and hunting out west).
I would like to hunt bighorn sheep one day, but looking at the amount of people in the pool I don't see it making sense to buy a point? It looks like there are over 10k nonresidents in the total pool of point holders and only 200 tags total a year, leaving 25% or 50 tags per year. Am I looking at the right data? if so, anyone getting in today will die before the points make a difference.
Can I just apply in the random without buying a point or is the point fee mandatory to apply?

The point fee isn’t mandatory to apply. I am applying for the random only. It’s a long shot, but worth it to me.

I’ve been doing the same thing. If I would’ve been smart and bought points years ago like my buddies that would be a different story but since I never did I see the same thing, thousands of zero point applicants in some cases I just don’t see the point of trying to catch up. Maybe that’s not the correct logic?

If I drew tags this year, I cannot purchase points this year for the draw next year, correct?

I'd give them a call to confirm. Their website has been a little tough for me to find exactly what I'm after, but they've been extremely helpful each time I've called them. (307) 777-4600.

That is correct. Either a license or a point each year. Not both unless you either draw your SECOND CHOICE or buy a leftover license which isn’t based on points. If you draw your first choice you can’t buy a point.

Reduced Price cow/doe tags arent based on PPs either - totally random
Yep. And for anyone interested there is no point system for mountain goats. Everyone has the same chance to draw. But the point is you can get those tags and still buy a point.

Bought an elk point for no other reason that it always seems like I always wish I had to open opportunities. Point creep is a thing but better to play the game sometimes than not.

Appreciate the reminder!

Thanks for the heads up. I just grabbed my moose point. Maybe when I have 30 points and I’m 70 I’ll get a moose tag...doubt it.

I have a question for people with more experience there. Any full price license will use your points. When I look in the regs, full price elk hunts with a number 1, 4 or 5 are listed as full price. I see there are also GENERAL hunts. Are those considered full price hunts as well?
