Land Grab in San Juan County- Doodah Monument

Thanks for your opinion tips. Sometimes a person's perspective is to narrow and they miss the bigger broader picture (happens to me way to much)

this 1.9 million arces will sure add the chunk of land under federal protection in southeastern utah. Three national parks two current monuments.
I'm personally torn not because I don't think it needs protection but the best way to go about it. The 8 person board without anyone representing utahans is a no go for me. These places also have special meaning to some not belonging to any of the five tribes. The national parks service, blm, and forest service currently are pushing to restrict access across the board. Nothing worse than changing policy and not having a voice at the table.

I completely understand, and I'm not an Utahan, and if I was I would want a voice at the table as well. My problem is not if you are for or against it, it is with how the designation was being portrayed in this thread by a member of our hunting community that has a platform and followers, it was riddled with misinformation, and inaccuracies.

Thing with politics is- YOU NEVER GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. Rarely is it about the headlines nor the talking points that get continuely discussed. It's all about the footnotes where the favors and money exchange hands do you find out what the real agendas are

To many.

It really pisses me off that guys who claim to represent "hunting" blindly put stuff out without actually doing any research or investigating regarding things like this.

It's got the buzz words "Obama landgrab" and apparently that's all it takes.

If anyone actually has contact with this guys they may want to tell them to get educated.

Hey I just copied and pasted read the whole thing but my mistake was to assume and not do my own research, yeah the buzz words got me

I wasn't even calling you out, but I appreciate the note. My anger is directed towards the hushin guys. If they had reasoning along the lines of realunlucky in this thread that's one thing, but using buzzwords and lying to your hunting followers is the issue.

Good to see folks talking about what National Monuments area and aren't. I just thought that you all might be interested in this report from Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Trout Unlimited and the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership that details the history of National Monuments, profiles ones that benefit sportsmen and presents a path forward for when, where and how to designate new monuments: http://backcountryhunters.org/images/national_monuments_report_final.pdf Full disclosure, I work for Trout Unlimited, but I thought this might be of interest to some of you on this thread.
