I am looking to start getting new clothes to start hunting back country.
I have a Moose hunt this Sept.
I was looking at the Kuiu stuff.
Good price point and seams pretty good.
Why do some people put the company down on this site?
Am I missing something?

Kuiu makes great gear. Having said that I ordered a set and returned it all. No problem with the company, the fit was the issue for me. Everything is cut for an "athlete" and not for we on the backside of middle aged who no longer have the flat abs of our youth. I've since gone the route of First Lite. I like their fit much better and the "Fusion" pattern is the best there is in my opinion.

There's a few reasons. They pulled their sponsorship a couple years back for seemingly questionable reasons. People still have issues about the inventory problems that they sometimes have, which are much better now but used to be a lot worse. And I'm sure some just don't like the way they run their business. I personally just like to use the best gear I can get at the best price. Kuiu makes great gear and so do some of the others. The quality is top of the line. Overall I prefer it over the other options but I still have some pieces of all the top brands.

Their gear is top notch and I have confidence in the quality however I question their support for the average joe hunter and conservation contributions. Where as if you want just as good quality gear and a company who has set the bar high for conservation contributions and a family style customer service I would fully recommend First Lite.

Jason has done an exceptional job designing a totally revolutionary business model and performance product, but all I keep hearing is about this business model and these super expensive sheep hunts that 99% of can't ever afford. Where as First Lite you will constantly see family style setting photos, actual hunts that most of us could afford and constant stuff on conservation like stuff about what certain states with good wildlife legislation has passed, public land news, and groups like RMEF.

I have a mix of both brands and I dig some of the pieces like the Kenai jacket, but I like also supporting brands that really have you the average hunter best interest in mind.

But in the long run, get what works for you, you can't go wrong with Kuiu, First Lite or Sitka.

Just my .2 cents

Instead of getting wrapped up in interweb drama, find what gear works best for you.

I've got a bit of Kuiu to try out. And what I've used so far, I've really liked.

I'm not too happy with their stance on public land stewardship so I buy first lite.

I like a little from everyone. I have first lite, Kuiu and Sitka. I may have some core4 in the mix too. I also use some no hunting companies as well. Just get what you like and go with it. I was always successful with real tree camo. Heck my first elk I killed in blue jeans.

X2

I have some of all. Regarding Kuiu my favorite pieces are the guide gloves (3 or 4 seasons on them), and my original guide vest (canada made). If anyone has a Canada original guide vest in L or XL in a solid color that they want to sell please pm me.

my experience has been mixed bag too. there sale back a few months didnt have much of anything for me. just got a surprise early birthday gift. i got me a guide jacket and a few other things. dissapointed in the fit too.its all going back. arms too long and athletic cut might work if i was a performer on the Vegas strip.ive found the Core 4 stuff better fitting and not baggy at all.i wanna like the stuff but havent been able to get anything. season is here already. cant wait for back orders.

I like the pattern and as others said, it is pretty good stuff. That being said, I personally do not like they way they do business.
And when I don't like the way a company does business I will go with a company that does good business.

Just use what you like. I know it's a sin these days but your gear doesn't have to all match lol... I have Sitka outer layers, first lite base layers, and a kuiu icon pro 5200 pack... All have their reasons and for me the fit mattered most. Plus first lite has the merino on point in my opinion.

I'll vouch for mixing it up, Kuiu's Icon packs are great specially for the price compared to my $700 Kifaru lol. I will say though First Lite has knocked the base layers out of the ball park.

I do want a kifaru pack I will not even pretend to be 100% satisfied with my kuiu. Far as ride and how it feels it's ok, but that D**N squeak in the frame is about annoying lol... I know I've seen lots of others on here post as well about the noise theirs makes also.

I like the patterns, but the fit is one of the best for me. I think they are a tad over priced for what it is, but I have a lot of their gear.

Thanks,
Boswell

Haha yeah I make fun of my buddies squeak all the time.

I will say the investment in a Kifaru is well worth every penny, best frame I have ever worn. Bomb proof. I can totally see why guides buy these all the time.

I made the leap to buying Swarovski's this year so I'm gonna ride out the kuiu pack at least for this fall. But next year I will definitely be buying a kifaru after I recoup the credit cards from tags apps and new gear lol

I have clothes from a bunch of companies. Kuiu is in my top 3. My biggest complaint is how short their shirts are. There are times when I am only wearing a long sleeve shirt and I feel like if I lift my arms, my belly button is out. Sitka fits my body absolutely perfect and for pants so does Prana. Kuiu's quality on their clothes is top notch and it really comes down to if it fits your body or not. As mentioned above, it is meant for guys that are in shape.
