4Runner or Half Ton Pickup?

Paid 40k for my wife’s sr5 premium in 2018. Sold it last weekend with 99k on it for 38k. Can’t beat the resale on them imo. She got new gx550 overtrail and it’s gonna turn into quite the hunting rig for me when she’s bored haha.

Nope can’t beat the 4Runner resale.

I bought a 98 4Runner limited with 140k for $5k in 2014. In 2022 I sold that 4Runner for $5k with 270k on it and got the guy to fix a valve on my water line bc he was a plumber as part of the deal.

I never should have sold that rig, been looking for another 3rd Gen. TX seems to have some at decent prices. Make sure it has the rear locker as people are always looking for that.

The question I’ll ask is do you want the stinky and/or wet stuff in the cab with you or in the back?

I duck hunt using a jeep patriot and throw the decoys and waders in the back all season. It’s been 5 months since my last hunt and well that stink doesn’t go away.

I drive the jeep because gas mileage. I know the 4Runner and a half ton aren’t getting the 30 mpg so stink outside is why I’d pick a truck over the 4Runner.

I love my 3rd gen!

Easy. Truck.

Which one? Also easy, Tundra. Get an older one. They run forever with little maintenance. Plus you can usually do all of the work yourself.

Honestly, the older the better on whatever route you choose. Quality vehicles do not exist today with all of the requirements applied by the government and whatever other agencies have jurisdiction.

I have owned plenty of vehicles but never once in my life from when i was 16 is there a time where I didn't have a truck and I will always own one. Had plenty of beaters for a daily driver. You don't need a truck all the time but when you do, you do.

I have both. If I had only one, it would be a truck. I’ve got more tow capability and a bed for hauling whatever. The 4Runner is a nice ride, good resale and smaller turn radius.

Your education is probably the third most expensive thing you will acquire in your life, wife and home are 1 and 2. Know nothing about your career aspirations but generally your academic performance in college will have an impact on your lifetime earnings. For some careers, that performance alone will determine your entry into the career. A&M has a first year drop out rate of 12% which ranks in the top 25% nationally, average is 25%. 4 year graduation rate is 55%, 6 yr 89% ,again very good. Consideration of your ability to duck hunt relative to a vehicle is typical of young males in this state but may be counterproductive to the rest of your life. Son has a partner with 2 sons, identical twins, one goes to A&M the other UF, both have great cars bought by their father, both sit at home under car covers in Ft Lauderdale during their first 2 years. Both are engineering majors.
Grumpy old man opinion over.
