I've got no problem with KUIU as anything I've purchased from them has been of high quality.

I did get a kick out of the catalog they sent with my last order. Who rappels off an icefall with all camo gear carrying traditional archery equipment? See a lot of big game on glaciers? My first thought was if I hunted such area's I'd wear $5:00 white painters coveralls. My crew recently spent a night standing around the campfire laughing our asses off each time we turned the page :)

Their marketing seems to be geared towards those who think they are cool as opposed to those who think!

love or hate the line Kuiu has some innovative pieces and some quality pieces that are good value ie. Rain gear

I know many would disagree, but I think their packs are now in this club even though they had their problems early on. While they are often compared to SG and Kifaru (which I don't agree they are on that level) people also forget that they are significantly cheaper. My 7200 and 3200 combined cost less than a SG or Kifaru pack. So even though the fit may not quite be on the same level, where I think they are innovative is bringing the features and feel of a top end pack down to a price range for those of us not ready to spend $650+ on a pack.

I am really looking forward to seeing if the Teton rain gear brings light weight performance to even a lower price point as that will be the real breakthrough piece of that series.

While I agree Jason is a great marketer, I think there is a lot he has yet to learn about the internet; especially running an internet only business.

He knows how to work the internet for every negative comment counter with at lest five positive comments. That is much more time consuming than just erasing all negatives. Lucky some places can't bought and still have uncensored( well mostly uncensored) conversations about gear.
I do agree it much more labor intensive to try and edit content than to just delete the thread. When you do this it makes all contributers feel like they wasted their time and they did. It's defiantly harder to get those posters engaged again

Yeah, the correct way to do it would be to respond to each negative comment individually and only delete when absolutely necessary. Even if people are having trouble it makes people feel more comfortable if the company is being proactive about solving problems. The internet has changed how customer service needs to be handled as a single person who feels slighted can do a lot of damage. Now you aren't going to keep everyone happy and I think potential customers can see through those that are unreasonable, but in contrast if someone has a problem with SG, Kifaru, FL, EE, etc. someone from the company will usually respond on here within a day or two but never see the same from Kuiu.

Sigh...another KUIU bashing thread with Shrek leading the charge. I'm shocked!!!

@Shrek; so predictable that you are leading the charge again. Why do you care? Seriously, why? Did someone at KUIU wrong you in a past life? Please, tell us the story so we understand. There are a few places that I think are horrible businesses but I don't waste a minute of my precious time commenting, looking for, or even caring about them. Do you secretly have a man crush on Jason and are pissed that he won't hunt with you?

bivouaclarry - I doubt you and I will ever know the answers to those questions. I guess maybe if we had have half the posts on here that he does, it might make some sense, but for now he just sounds like some butthurt little boy who lost his toy to me. Lots of speculation about the Kuiu business with what I'm certain is zero actual knowledge of their sales and customer base.

And regarding the marketing and the catalog, would some of you guys be more impressed if it featured guys drinking beer and road hunting? ;-)

While yes while you may believe your opinion is the best it doesn't negate others differing opinions.

Kuiu has and does offer some fine gear. I only have used the clothing since the onset and have beat the heck out of it. All of it is still in use with the exception of a trashed set of gaiters and I bought another set because the performed very well. Having grown up in a time of wool and borrowed gear I am for one extremely pleased they are around and offer innovative gear for the hunting community. We live in America and have choices to buy what we want. Mine is to buy kuiu when I feel it is something I like knowing it will perform well until proven otherwise to me.

Their sleeping bags are far from being a gimmick. IMO, one of their best products in their product line.

Well you have to remember it was Shrek. Someone who (last I saw on here) has not used the "gimmicky" bag, the "cheesy" pack or any of the "garbage". Yet he knows all about the gear.

More companies that specialize in backcountry HUNTING gear the better.

Fact is Kuiu brought and still brings a very competitive product to the market place.

I admire Jason, his growth in this niche is unprecedented. Not because his gear suxs either.

He bucked a lot of trends that has made the industry better... No gortex, non sitka price points, non-branded camo etc.

I don't get the hate for Kuiu... Don't like them don't buy their products. O'well to each their own

It's just an overpriced Marmot Plasma with a sheep logo on it

I agree with Shrek. The version 1.0 and 2.0 tents have major problems and instead of addressing them they just pretend they don't exist. The packs aren't hunting packs, they're hiking/camping packs. They're great if you aren't going to pack out any meat, but if that's the case just get a Kelty or an Osprey or something.. They're cheaper and have been in business since before I was born

When I dropped $1k in gear and was told it was made in North America, then when it shows up on my door step all the tags say made in China, it's hard not to hate. Especially since that was one of my main deciding factors between Kuiu and other companies at the time

I honestly don't understand guys like you..........Kuiu has been very transparent about nearly everything they've done since they started (the first generation of tents may be another story), and if you can't figure out their stock situation, that's on you and not them. Expecting them to be like any other retailer that orders their products from a huge warehouse and is supposed to have stock on the shelf 365 days a year is simply unrealistic. They've NEVER promised that would be the case. Plain and simple - either order what's in stock and receive it right away (and be super happy about it), or plan WAY in advance and wait patiently for it to come in.

There are many stories of KUIU's empty promises from fellas on here who have ordered WAY out, promised a date, then promised another date, and on and on. If you're diligent, honest and objective anyone could piece together that there have been some MAJOR issues with KUIU. Including but not limited to, quality control, backorders not filled in the time they promised and some cases of crediting of accounts for returns.

I hope KUIU gets it figured out. But I believe this to be impossible due to the fact that I believe the problem MAY lie in the high probability that there are some enormous integrity issues over there. Is the Port strike over with guys? Or is there a new excuse?

You're making an emotional argument. Shrek usually has some substance. Why do you care that he cares? I appreciate honest feedback about products and companies. And I respect your right to be wrong as I also support you're right to imply Shrek desires a homosexual relationship with Jason however childish that may be. It's kind of the "in" thing anyways.
