i had both the 1p and 2p. spent around 30 nites in them and they past all tests for me in washington. the strength to weight is hard to beat. simple to put up, comfortable, liked the grey color, was nice instead of a inner like hillberg's yellow inner. i still am having a hard time finding any tent i am willing to buy over these for the hunts i do. i prefer ridge tops, usually with one small larch tree or a rock to break wind off one side. never had any bad feelings in them, spent multiple days in them a few times, rained and fogged out with winds ripping..... rock solid. will never buy another tent that has a fly that attaches to the outside of the pole structure. this tent sold me on that. i sent both back due to a design flaw and was an easy refund. they will be releasing them again i was told.

my issues were that the caribeener/clips that you crossed the poles into on the ends and top were not properly sewn into the fly. they had mass stress in a way that was pulling on them in the end tearing. if that was re worked i would buy both again. next month the hillberg enan will be released via hillberg conversations i had so i will buy one of those to get by untill the new tents released, everytime i get in one the yellow inner pisses me off though.... guess im yellow sensative. kuiu told me the 2p will be even lighter.

Hey have you considered the Big Sky Revolution. I just picked one up (couldn't wait any longer - our deer season opens in March) and it is a very similar design to the Kuiu. So far seems to be a solid tent.

Cheers,

I just bought a large order from KUIU. Does anyone happen to have any insider info on when the yukon gaiters, 145 Zip-T and Attack pants will be back in? I have them on backorder :(

I was told mid-march for the gaiters (I was waiting for the grey color). So...not too long for you hopefully. Luckily, I bought an essentially new pair here on rokslide (thanks kyle)!

If I had two of their tents tear on me I don't think I would want another one.. Sounds like it cheaply made like their packs. IMO

Because they produce a good product. I've got just about everything they make and I've yet to wait for any product on BO other than their zip off merino bottoms. And I wear Large and Mediums which are common sizes. People will always find a reason to gripe about something.....
`
Yep, people will gripe about honesty and integrity and transparency..and they SHOULD if a company is run as poorly as this one is.
I have several KUIU pieces, the gen 1 guide Jacket, (the gen 2 DCS xxl was sewn for a midget) and I have a KUIU Super down, and a cap.
Great items, EXCELLENT gear, but I bought them USED. I won't patronize a company that censors the critical reviews from it's clientele.
Poor reviews on KUIU's website get deleted and the user squashed.
And much has been said about "aww, give them time to grow and they will stock more merchandise." BS. Kuiu is a multi-million $ company and as such needs to be prepared for the big leagues. Get up to speed or get the hell out.
They posted an intro for their new backpack "KUIU LIVE EVENT!" at another forum, I responded to the thread with, "Great rollout for your new pack, now how about stocking a vais beanie that has been back-ordered for a flippin year."
Response? Hell no.

Long live First Lite.

Broomed , all I have to do to get deleted is point out that Kuiu knows they had a bad batch of tents go out the door and haven't recalled them but are instead letting their customers find out rhe hard way that they have a bad tent and only replacing the ones that the customers call and complain about. I wonder if I'll be deleted again ?

I owned the icon 7200(version that was breaking the frames). Kuiu pretty much left me with a sour taste in my mouth when rather than discontinue them, they just cut the price on a product they knew was having problems. That pack made me switch to a stone glacier, so much better pack and Kurt is a great guy to boot!

Whats word on the kuiu tents? A friend just picked up a used one. I've been trying to find some reviews on it but they are far and few between.

A top shelf company would have voluntarily recalled all of those packs (and the aforementioned tents) and issued a refund or coupon for other goods.

As I said, I won't buy anything new from them. I hate their business model as it stands right now. Kuiu has some great products, I think I have their best, but there are many great alternatives out there for far less money. Guys get hung up on a must-have camo pattern and in reality it doesn't mean jack sh*t to the game being hunted. It matters to the hunter.

Lots of reports of them leaking. Instead of addressing a potentially life threatening design flaw Kuiu just removed the tents from their website and will not address the issue one way or the other even on their own forum, suggesting that they are at fault. Instead of issuing a recall and warning end users of this potential danger, they just removed them:

Read through that provided KUIU thread about this tent problem and all I can say is 'wow'.

Not one comment from "Jason" or anyone else affiliated with the company. Unbelievable.

Guys would be putting their lives at stake to utilize one of those structures on a place like Kodiak. A wet body, wet gear and freezing temps could spell disaster.
Use at your own risk.
I'll stick with my 3lb 14oz RAB summit mountain......Everest, K2, Fuji and Denali proven.

Seems Kuiu censors their forum and comments very closely. I don't think they like any bad comments about their products. Almost like they are trying to hide something. To me, knowing good and bad helps me get better and stronger. Not hide from it and then censor. Sucks to hear about their tents, I think that was a copy design or re badged tent?

Hey to each their own. I have First Lite, Sitka, Arc'teyrx, Western Mountaineering, Mammut and clothing/gear from other mountaineering companies as well to pick and choose the best gear for the right application for the various hunts I do. As stated, I have no issues with Kuiu (well except for their 2012 icon pack...didn't care for that one because of the bag layout....personal preference) or with some of this gear from other companies in terms of CS. If you don't like Kuiu or how they run their business, then don't use their products. Its really that simple.

Not defending Kuiu if some people are having issues. I could care less about the politics/banter of what I read on the internet and what happens on various forums. Ultimately the performance of the gear is what i am more interested in and I haven't had any issues with the said companies so will keep buying their products as required. Kuiu must be doing something right if they are growing 100% year after year, so there must be some satisfied customers out there. No such thing as pleasing everyone in any business or with any business model. That is a fact

Yup I got my refund on the mountain star 2p. First night of rain, water through the floor, roof and sides. They should definitely recall those tents.

Idig, I agree with you, they offer some really great products. I have no political axe to grind. I use their stuff and obviously am not afraid to tip my hat in that regard.
Just wish that they weren't run so darn secretively with things that don't pass muster. I say, open up about the quality or lack of it with products and guys will appreciate the candor.
A ten day hunt deep in the mountains or wilderness is no time to find out that something is inherently defective.
