KRG Echo - Sporterish version of bravo for tikkas

No worries.

I removed the bolt handle, firing pin assembly, plunger ejector, and extractor. I sent the bolt body only. Honesty just bc it was easier to package; he didn’t need it disassembled. I did the plunger & extractor bc I’m picky and didn’t want to find plier marks on them when it got back (not saying it would, I’ve only heard good things about Kinport Peak, but I’ve dealt with many gunsmiths and if I can do something myself I will).

As far as magazines, I specifically tested this a couple hundred times with each version using three different dummy rounds that had the bullet seated to various lengths. @Juan_ID had posted that they worked fine which was actually my tipping point for going ahead with the build. I was concerned that the extractor could bind up on the case rim, and if closing the bolt slowly it’s very slightly more perceptible than a standard 308 version, but otherwise it’s as though it was made by Tikka from the factory. Works flawlessly. The M magazine does feel like it feeds a touch smoother than the S magazines though. But again I didn’t have any hangups running the bolt slow to fast & in-between.

I imagine theoretically that the bolt face modification could cause headspace issues, but I have all three gauges and it was right where it needed to be for the one barrel I’ve tried thus far.

Hope that helps! I have zero regrets, Tikka should offer this as a factory option. I’d buy two or three immediately.

Mine sure seems too, I kept thinking the recoil lug was not nesting into the slot of the action. I used some machinist die to convince myself it was actually assembled.

Ya... that captured front action screw does make things a bit difficult. I poked at mine with a dental pick and it seems fully seated.

I originally got the Echo specifically for a CTR bc I’ve had more than a few issues with the mags. Couldn’t wait to get a better stock & get factory mags. As mentioned you do need the mag retention spring.
Nothing wrong with a 10lb rifle in the mountains! I switched from Bravo to Echo and prefer it. The magazine system is way batter. Then I got a second one to try in the lighter contour. But the Rokstok is winning that comparison. After a few hundred rounds, Rokstok is better for Lite contour barrel but the Echo hangs in there right behind it. Echo is better for the CTR, way too nose heavy in the Rokstok. The Rokstok is off getting a 1” Decelerator currently or I’d have included comparison pics.

Do have to mention: haven’t had a single issue with factory mags in use but they don’t click into place easily with either one of my Echos. Hangs up on the front end. If you push up on the forward section of the bottom of the mag it doesn’t happen though. If for some reason you need fast mag changes that would be a consideration.

Super dumb refresher question, especially considering I had 2 CTRs in Bravo chassis. Is the chassis itself the bottom metal? I just need to buy the chassis and the mag retention spring for CTR fit correct?

Yes for the Echo the chassis itself is the bottom metal. You’re correct, just need to buy the chassis & mag retention spring.

Did anyone mount a Tikka with a Proof Sendero type profile barrel? Is there clearance? I'm waiting on an Oregon Mountain Rifle CF prefit. The shank is 1.120" for 3" then tapers to 1". I know their website says "varmint" profile at .950 at the end of the forend. If it does touch a little can it be sanded for clearance? Not sure if this is an option with the sporter contour insert. Messaged KRG and still waiting for response.

Not sure what blanks. Web search seems very positive in regards to accuracy so I went with them. Not a huge CF guy but do like them on hunting rifles that will be sporting a suppressor and only shooting once or twice in a row.

In case anyone is interested here’s KRG’a reply:
Sir, the Echo barrel channel can be sanded or modified to allow a larger barrel profile to work. Once the barrel channel has been widened your OMR CF barrel should work without issue. We have these barrel shrouds available if you ever need to change back to the original size or repair an issue.

The grip on the Echo is ambidextrous. With some Dremel work, could a left hand action drop in it. Asking for a friend.

Here are my thoughts on the KRG Echo:

The ergonomics are really great for the price point. As someone that runs a lot of manners stocks (EH1A, PRS1, LRH) it felt really natural for a stock 1/3rd the cost of what I normally use.

The stock is just as if not more accurate than my factory Tikka stock.

The bad:

Getting the action to setup down into the stock and onto the recoil lug takes some fiddling.

It definitely flexes at the forend with a bipod. Keep that in mind when picking a barrel insert, you probably want healthy free float.

The accessories are annoying. I think I spent half the stock cost for stock lop spacers, arca rail, qd cups, thumbscrew and a pic rail. I understand why they set it up that way but I feel like you will probably order from KRG twice before you are happy.

The bolt removal is dumb and it defeats the purpose of the low profile cheek riser adjustment. If you need to clean your rifle you either need a hex key or the thumbscrew accessory.

If you get over the quirks it’s a really good stock for the money that’s actually ready to ship today. It definitely kept my Tikka build under control.
