I just purchased a new Knight Ultralight Mountaineer in .45cal. I will be shooting Blackhorn 209 as a propellant. This being my first.45cal muzzleloader and not being familiar, I am interested in hearing about a preferred bullet and load for this rifle. If anyone has some insights they can provide please share. Would appreciate a good starting point.

I will be hunting whitetail deer in the southeast.

Thank you!

I just traded a guy for a .45 and a .50 UL also. Haven’t shot either yet. The twist on the .45 is 1:20, which is good - pretty versitile.

For whitetail, I’d shoot a saboted .40 bullet like a Barnes 195 or Fury 225. My plan is to try those two bullets first in a Harvester light blue smooth .40/.45 sabot with about 90-100 grV of Bh209.

I’ll post my results here when I do.
