Looking at getting the Kifaru meat baggie. Ive done a little research and it looks like its not breathable, seams not sealed, and holds roughly 80-100# of boned out meat. Anyone use the baggie regularly? Would it pack well with the KUIU Icon system? Could I get an Elk out in 4 trips using one? Should I get one or go with the XXL KUIU dry bag which has more volume I think but is more square shape??

Thanks,
Jake

I have 2 meat baggies and 1 quarter bag. I have used the quarter bag to put my gear in to keep it dry and clean when hauling meat in the pack. I have not used the meat baggies, I have used the BOMB bags and pillow cases instead because they breath well and I always seem to harvest on a sunny day. The meat baggies are designed great for carrying meat, there is a handle on one end and a draw string closure on the other end. I think 2 or 3 meat baggies would consume an Elk and cape. The meat baggies are still in my kill kit for future use. I though the BOMB bags would fit in the meat baggies? I briefly tried but it didn't happen. This would be a good way to go and I hope to work that detail out before the next season.
The big Kuiu dry sack would probably hold to much meat and be hard to maneuver. You want a long cylindrical shape for your meat vessel, it's easier to work with and carries better.

An average bull will fit in 4 meat baggies, but not a big one. I like to carry two of them, while my buddy carries two more breathable bags. We bone out the meat, and load up the meat baggies for the first trip. We then leave the rest of the meat hanging in the shade to cool and breathe. The first load goes in the cooler and the baggies go back up the mountain for the rest. They carry way better than the stretchy, shapeless others. They won't hold 100 pounds of meat. Strong enough, but not big enough. Luckily, I've never seen a bull gross 400 pounds of boned-out meat, so they will fit most bulls. It's nice to carry 2.5 ounces in your pack, and know that first trip is taken care of. I slide that down the middle of my Timberline, and there always seems to be just enough room for the rest of my food/gear. Or, if we're hoping to get right back to hunting again, some things are left on the mountain.

I have a quarter and meat baggie and and you should be able to get a bull out in four meat baggies no problem. they are perhaps my favorite kifaru product and I will be buying the hanging meat bag shortly. wish I would have had one years ago. well worth the money imo.

Ive been debating this for a little bit... Could a deer quarter fit in a meat bag at all or no? Ive never boned out but may start looking at going that direction......

im not sure but I know the quarter bag is huge. maybe kifaru should make a mid sized bag that would fit a deer quarter in it.

If it's not a huge buck, it'll fit. You may have to do a little pushing and pulling, but if you're careful, you could get two fronts in one, or maybe even a front and a rear. Did that last November, but it was a smallish buck.

Well, I already decided to pull the trigger on the Meat Baggie due to the shape and ease of packing. I wish it was a little bigger but I think that it will suit me fine. Thanks for the help guys!

Hey Aron! Time to get Kifaru on making a Meat Baggie XL!!!! Get on it! :)

It takes 2 Kifaru Meat Baggies to hold a bone in sheep. 2 quarters and the trimmings in each bag, no way it would all fit into one bag. I have used them on deer and goat and it takes 2 bags for those as well.

The meat baggie is great! I have 4 of them or so. They are sooo light! You can use them to carry other things as well. Clothes, food, etc.
I've carried capes in it too to keep my pack cleaner.

Did you transfer to another baggie at some point? Or was this after the meat was cooled? Just curious how you use these in conjunction with something more breathable like the Pristine Venture TAG bags. Thanks.

For me the Kifaru meat baggies are used soley just for pack outs. Meat should not be "stored" in them. Unless temps are cold enough would I then maybe keep them in it.

I generally keep my meat or quarters in breathable game bags. So meat can breath and cool down. And I use the Kifaru bags just for pack out.

question for guys that have used them

I have the TAGS BOMB bags and was thinking about getting the big quarter bag to put the bomb bags is while hauling out. That way i can put quarters in it if i leave the bones in, or just use it to protect my pack from blood while the bomb bags give them the "tube" shape you need when boned out.
