Roskilde gang, I know there have been previous discussion's on this .looking for kifaru pack for 5-7 day elk/ mule deer hunt. Tipi, stove, food, sleeping bag ,pad etc. Looking at fulcrum vs hoodlum. Anybody ran both ? Pros cons? To me it looks like the way the fulcrum straps it would haul meat better with camp stuff. Looks like they compress similarly. Hoodlum could add pouches to get cubic inches up there. Leaning towards fulcrum. Thanks

I’ll start by saying that I’ve had my hoodlum for about a week, but unless you just have giant heavy ass gear you could easily get 5-7 days out of a hoodlum.

I know it’s not one of the packs you mentioned, but I really like the mountain warrior with a guide lid. 5-7 day trips are probably what I do the most of. This pack is a really good size for that. I like the how it has a large main compartment, and a few pocket for organization. When I do 10 day trips I usually add a spotting scope pocket on each side, and put clothes in there.

I have been using this pack for the last 4 years on tons of trips, and it has worked great for me.

Mountain Warrior with 6 days food gear September Elk hunt.

Zac, do you know the size of hoodlum main bag in closed lid mode plus the side pockets. I watched videos and numbers thrown around vary. Even a little confusing on kifaru,s sight. Thanks

I don’t have the Fulcrum. But you will be plenty fine with a Hoodlum for that amount of days without even adding anything to it.

I have done 10 days solo out of my Hoodlum with room to spare.

Man I only know what’s on the website as far as actual volume. Looks like with the collar folded over it’s a hair under 7,000 cubic inches. According to the website.

edit: should’ve been more specific that’s pockets and main bag

The side pockets, per the video, are roughly 385 each (web site specifies 400 - close enough). The main bag is roughly 6500 of which, I think, about 1000 of that is with the collar extended.

I have done 6 nights. My sleeping bag and tent are not space-efficient and I had plenty of room.

Have any of you guys loaded meat with your camp stuff in the bag and had plenty of space and keep tight from shifting around ? The fulcrum with the independent straps to main bag looks like you could reef it down while wings are separated. I realize the fulcrum is huge. Watched videos from kifaru it looks like they both compress down equally well for daypack. Thanks

This is a little confusing to me. But there’s plenty of slack in the compression straps that even when I’ve had my bags crammed full you could also tighten the straps. But then again the more crap you have crammed in one the less things move around. I hope this is what you are asking.

Probably wasnt clear on description. Fulcrum straps bypass wings to compress main bag directly to put direct compression on main bag only. Hoodlum straps go around side pockets and main bag( Spotter/ tripod etc. ) With stuff in side pockets does it seem to " crush" thing's to accomplish good compression of main bag so meat / heavy high riding stuff doesn't slide downward or shift. Not to beat a question to death ! Thanks

I think unless you just go hulk on the straps I wouldn’t worry about crushing your gear. Kifaru has made and sold a lot of packs with the straps go over those outer pockets, I think If it was a problem they would’ve changed designs.

I have a hoodlum and a stone glacier talus 6900. I've used the SG for 14 day sheep hunts and it works fine. its tight but manageable. the hoodlum bag seems almost a little bigger. plus I added the guide lid and 2 bigger belt pouches onto the front of the bag for a little more room if needed. you shouldn't have a problem using it for 7 day hunts unless your packing the whole kitchen sink with you lol

I haven’t used the meat shelf if that’s what your asking. And tbh I don’t like the design of their shelf because if it were to rip there would be a tear in the back of the bag. I bought a grab it that stays clipped onto the frame under the bag.
