i too just like a simple, clean pack without pockets hanging off every attachment point for one. i have a gen II spikecamp and a timberline II internal frame.
i even cut the side pockets off my T2 and turned them into side pouches that i can attach only if i need to. it looks like an AMR now, only in a T2 size. the 2 rear pockets on the T2 are small enough to not add bulk and handy for storing things like a kill kit and rain gear. if i cut them off too i'd be left with a longhunter.
the oldschool longhunter was a great bag. the high camp and markhor are the only other bags that have resembled anything i would consider buying if i didn't already have a T2.

if i was starting over again, at a quick glance i would probably go with a 14'r for a daypack with omni frame and a muskeg for the multiday stuff. if there are pockets hanging of my pack i want it to be because i put them there.

I've been satisfied by gear from (first) Kifaru and (lately) Seek Outside. I have never hidden the fact that I've owned 2 Kifaru packs topping $500 each and both setups had problems. I sold each of them after a season and haven't had a reason to try another one. I don't fault their quality in any way. I simply learned they are not MY pack and no sense buying what doesn't work for me. I would recommend them, yes....but not as my first choice. I also don't think any one elite pack manufacturer is dominating the market. They might dominate someone's opinion however.

I haven't owned a Seek Outside pack (yet), but I can attest to their continued innovation, product development and ultimately improved gear over a good many years. I've watched them grow and become extremely respected by people.

Buy what you like. And by the way: After many years of consecutive trips to Alaska, I've seen one Kifaru pack. It was in the Seattle airport and the guy was arguing about making it fit in an overhead compartment. I believe he ended up surrendering it at the gate. From what I've seen, you can't talk dominant packs in terms of sales and market share until you're looking at those showing Mossy Oak or Realtree exteriors.

WOW the fanboy is strong on this thread. One of the most annoying parts of a forum is people passing off their opinions as fact, this thread reflects that perfectly. Its a great time to be a backpack hunter as there are a whole lot more viable options than there were a few years ago. In one way or another all the front runner companies are driving innovation. There are a ton of different factors that make people decided on this pack or that pack and we are lucky to be in an era where there is a pack for everyone. The fanboy posts like this one just end up being dick measuring contests.

Bought the Gen2LongHunter in 2002, that pack was bombproof! Could pack 1/2 an elk if needed. My buddy bought one too, 5 years later he left it in his garage a little bloody from the season & his white lab puppy chewed it to pieces. He kept it around for a year or so & finally gave it to me cause I was pestering him. I boxed it up & shipped it to Kifaru for “warranty repairs” hoping for the best as this pack was literally destroyed. A week later a super nice lady from KIFARU called me on the phone & asked me what happened to this pack? This is obviously far more than warranty repairs & normal wear & tear she said...so I told her the truth about what happened & she laughed....She charged me $60 to rebuild the entire pack & got it back 10days later in pristine condition. KIFARU answers their Colorado telephone on the second ring & they have treated me awesome! I’m not a FanBoy, just a loyal customer to a company that builds sweet packs & heated shelters that help me get organic meat to the freezer year after year

Great gear in the back country when the chips are down. No substitute quality, period.

Hahaaa guys like you are literally the laughing stock of this thread and you don't even know it. Your immaturaties are apparent. My pack is the best in the whole wide world, snyder is my hero...he is the best and nobody can tell me otherwise because my feelings are fragile, theres only 3000 people in my town and all 6 of them use kifaru because kifaru is simply the best...the end. I think you need to get out out more KurtR...theres a bit more to the world than 3000 people. Relax pal nobody is denying you of your humanity, we're all happy you're satisfied with your kifaru. The OPs claim along with many others is what's in question here not your loyalty. Simple as that. FYI today I'm identifying as a frog. 🐸

Buddy has one, just packed bear bait etc in last week. Pack must have been off as that lumbar pad drove me nuts.

I have a Kifaru bag bought online for peanuts, but going to sell it as that lumber just doesn’t do it for me.

My brother uses an exo he likes it. I literally never once said that kifaru is the best in the whole world. I should know better than feed the trolls.....

Just on the first page of the backpack forum, there are like 15 out of 40 threads directly referencing or are related to Kifaru and their stuff. People are overwhelmingly targeting Kifaru products in these threads. Why is that? Do you suppose Kifaru’s reputation precedes itself? Patrick built something great to start with I think, and it’s only getting better all the time it seems. Sounds pretty dominant to me ;)

I have a few packs from high end companies, I use my Kifaru less than any of the others. In fact, I dont think I havent pulled out the kifaru for spring pack cardio at all. Seems like if it worked the best for me, i'd use it all the time...
