I have been seeing a few quilts being listed for sale lately? Are people jumping ship on quilts and going back to bags?

Only asking because I was thinking about trying a quilt in the future, but the down getting wet problem scares me.

Not sure on the initial generalization there, but I can tell you a wet down bag and a wet down quilt are gonna be equally cold and a wet synthetic quilt and a wet synthetic bag are gonna be on similar levels as well. If you're concerned about moisture, then you could get a synthetic quilt. You'll still get significant weight saving to a comparable synthetic bag.

Agree, for me the decision is related to Down vs. Synthetic. I just decided to stick with my synthetic bag, because I had it, not because it was a quilt. I love quilts and the freedom/comfort. I may look at a synthetic quilt sometime.

Nah. I don't think the majority of people are jumping ship on quilts. There all kinds of reasons they sell gear.

But I know why there are more being listed right now. I just blew my limited discretionary income on another purchase. Buying a quilt for my oldest is on my list. Now that I've drained the gear fund, you'll see a whole bunch of killer deals on quilts popping up. It's just the way it works.

Getting down wet is less of a problem than people make it out to be. Been there done that and I have zero concerns about it now.

Noticed that as well. I'm wanting to try one out. Not sure if I'll wait for a deal or just make one. My cousin rocked his on our cold ass moose hunt with no problems.

Well my experience is, with my slick bag and my sawtooth in rain. Having the stove at night is nice for drying out, but in the morning my outer shell was soaking wet but I was still warm in my bag. So my worry is in these same conditions will a down bag or quilt get wet and get soaked thru?

I can't say with regards to down, but if you want to go with a quilt and are hesitant about down, then get a synthetic one. I have slept with my woobie when it was wet and didn't have any problems. Personally, I like my woobie down into the 30's, but prefer a bag when it is below freezing.

The only way I would ever go back to a bag is if a rabid raccoon had shredded my quilt and there wasn't enough time to get a new one.

Well, if someone wanted to jump ship on a 0 degree long, they could let me know :D
I have really been considering jumping ship from bags to quilt.

Thanks

Absolutely agree! My ee revelation is quite possibly my favorite piece of gear. It's definitely my favorite piece added in the last two years and that's saying something because I've bought a completely new kifaru setup and swarovski SLC in that time frame.

I jumped after freezing my ass off in MT in 12* temps, I roll around a lot and maybe shoulda used some duct tape to secure it, kept waking up uncovered.... but that's just me

That's kind of the way I am as well. When warm, I usually like to sleep with my feet uncovered, but once I am past freezing, I just like to be bundled up completely. I am happy owning one of each. Well two bags, the -20 doesn't get pulled out often, but it is nice to have when needed.
