Maybe this should be in the DIY thread but actually it needs exposure. I haven't put much thought into this (like most of my rants) but I think someone should be able to come up with a solution to this. Has anyone figured out a way to put a lid on a Jetboil (SOL specifically) and have it be waterproof? I didn't know if they made one that didn't have any holes in it that you could somehow secure it and if someone had a method of using wire like an old Mason jar where a few mounts were spot-welded on the side to hook to. It would be best served for hunters/hikers wanting to prepare their chow ahead of time (like right before hiking back to camp at night) and have their meal ready and waiting. This would also be better for self-dehydrated food where you didn't have to carry in a seperate container for this process. I bet it has been thought of but there are issues with safety (heating/altitude) and vacuum (cooling off) but if it had a pressure relief valve it could work. What say you?

So you want to store cooked food in the jetboil and eat it as soon as you get back to camp?

I think he is saying that he would like to heat the water/food and let it sit and rehydrate while he was hiking back to camp. While I appreciate the idea, I would think it would be much easier to just use ziplocks (or reused MH bags), perhaps with a reflectix cozy, and keep the jetboil clean.

Heat up the water, dump in the dehydrated chow, leave it in the Jetboil and not have it spill out in your pack or sleeping bag or whatever that way you don't have to have more gear for this purpose. You don't technically even have to heat it up if you put it in there ahead of time. Maybe it is a stupid idea.

My Jetboild doesn't get cleaned while I am out. It gets rinsed with water or coffee and then consumed right then and there.

What do you gain by having it in jetboil vs pouch if you are not even heating it?

I think yer making mountains out of mole hills. Takes 2 minutes to boil water, another 5 to heat a meal. Thats 7 minutes. So while I'm waiting 7 minutes. I could be reloading my pack, filling my water, tying my boots etc.

I wouldn't sweat 7 minutes.

Yer prolly right. I heard that the homemade dehydrated leftovers take forever to rehydrate. I don't have experience. In fact, I usually just eat my food boiling hot (with less water) burning the sh*! out of my mouth and drink a little extra water afterwards.
