this one is not bad but pretty dry reading. he follows the Oregon trail to Oregon and then goes to California and finally back to st louis over a two year period. it is a journal with observations of weather and other facts encountered along the way. he met the Donner party and told them not to attempt the late trip.
from the time the first trappers and migrants got to California it was, it was --well lets just say many of them could not leave fast enough.
